Homeland And All Things Maher

Now, Gene Hackman died. Found with his wife and their dog, which I find strange, but RIP to one of the greatest actors. Popeye Doyle, Coach Dale, Royal Tennenbaum…some of my favorite roles…big loss.
He was fantastic. One of my favorites. Wouldn’t get an iPhone for over a decade because I was so traumatized and paranoid by him in enemy of the state

Always seemed to me to be listed at a level below other greats of his era, e.g. De Niro, Nicholson, and Pacino, but IMO was every beat their equal if not better.
I just googled movies he was in and damn he was in a ton that I thought were excellent

Runaway jury
Behind Enemy lines
The replacements
Enemy of the State
Absolute Power
The Chamber
Crimson Tide
Wyatt Earp
The Firm
Mississippi Burning
Bat21 ( absolutely riveting book )
Hoosiers
The Superman’s

The others I’m sure I saw some just don’t remember them all that well

The French connection has to be near top of any of his lists!

Unforgiven is also great.

Loved how he could toe the line and be a lead in just about any genre. Comedy, sports, action, drama. Plus he’s got to have the biggest head I’ve even seen. And I mean that literally not figuratively.

Not sure if you guys can tell but I’m pretty beaten up by this one.

Heist is really good.

The guy could do absurd but heartfelt comedy like Royal Tennenbaums, be a campy, hilarious Lex Luthor, portray the stubborn but brilliant Norman Dale and the most memorable 70s street cop this side of Serpico with Popeye Doyle.

An amazing career, especially for someone who didn't really catch a break until he was 36.

Post this with great sadness as David Johansen’s family revealed he is suffering from stage 4 brain cancer. A side of him not in concert with his more generally recognized public NYDs and Buster Poindexter personnas but he very much embraced Americana music also.

I'm sure you and most heard that DJ passed on Friday. He was a true rock icon and original.

Just finished Season 1 of "Slow Horses" - reportedly Mike Repole's least favorite show.

Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm in awe (and envious) of how many insults Gary Oldman's Lamb can hurl in one scene. Brilliant character.

Two with David J. singing, one a duet with of my favorite singer songwriters, who unfortunately pretty much drank himself to death well before his time, Bill Morrissey.

The second one is exceedingly poor quality but DJ singing one of Bill’s songs at a tribute concert to him after his death.

Saturating the thread but for those unfamiliar with Bill Morrissey, first from his 2nd album, North from1986,, defining marriage perfectly, at least in my eyes

This one from 2001’s, Something I Saw Or Thought I Saw, love lost
