That’s because St. John’s and The NY Mets share the same medical staff.

FWIW.....ZAGS Tweet:

Mustapha Heron of @StJohnsBBall ‘should be good’ for Tuesday vs. Butler after missing Saturday with a knee injury, per source.

Medical staff? Is that a thing?

Yup. 2 trainers + 1 nurse = ‘medical staff’.
Lol.

Its a new world in college basketball where honesty is not the best policy.

Even if he can't go for long, Heron's return tomorrow should be a big psychological lift for the team. That plus atonement for the egg on Saturday should bode well for us.

See Harvey? Not just me...Monte's 100% right it's always mysterious. Bruises, tendonitis, can't specify which knee, going pro, chicken pox...who really ever knows?
If he's our for any extended period of time it's game, set, match. I said before the season I could see us missing the tourney, making the NIT and then half the board will be saying Mullin deserves an extension because not making the tourney was due to injuries, not his fault. Totally disagree...it's on the staff for having no bench. Honestly, even if Mullin does lead us to the tourney, let's be real...he's clearly not the answer long-term. The team plays clueless and you can clearly see there is no real plan. Feel terrible for Ponds who very possibly will leave SJ without ever experiencing a game in the NCAA Tourney. What a waste of such a special talent. If we can't win consistently with Heron, Ponds, Clark, LJ, we will never be consistent under Mullin. I don't care if he has 5 star kids.
You need to take a trip to Nola and check in with some of the Voodoo priestesses to get some answers to your burning questions. and maybe have four or five Hurricanes beforehand to put you in the proper frame of mind.

A Marillac/Zaun quote-off.::) So far, Zaun's use of Wooden beats Marillac's Shakespeare quote.

Take this quote to heart. Find the right place for sports in your life and change your toxic and pessimistic ways. Invest in a stress ball instead of saturating the forum daily with your concerns and anxiety.

Pro tip: this is St. John’s basketball...it won’t end well for us this season or in the long term.

It’s hard to understand why any of us want such a detailed report on Heron’s condition to be made in such Public Forums ? Reading some of the comments that want to know Everything about his injury is ridiculous . How about Heron’s Rights to non disclosure of his Health issues ? Isn’t that important ! Sports injuries for any team in the public domain have implications for those engaged in gambling Activities , legal in some states, Illegal in others ... And , why give any knowledge of a Players injury to a Opponent ? Before hand . No, a statement from the University saying a player will play or not, should be sufficient . Not wheeling out a Knee Specialist to give us a complete diagnosis .

If reason doesn’t apply to our fans why would privacy or HIPAA? Rumor has it the crew is putting together a proposal for Mike Zaun to inspect all players before and after each game and to give Mullin coaching notes from the forum posters.

Mullin said the injury was day to day after the game Saturday. I guess Tuesday is another day.

The problem with depression is that the mood finds scripts to justify itself. Depressed mood in reaction to life events is different from depression as a mood disorder. Reading this thread I found myself running to quotes from my doctoral work on countertransference; e.g.
In their 1983 study of countertransference and attitudes in the treatment of drug abuse, Imhof, Hirsch, and Terenzi commented as follows:
The therapist in a position to provide a particular treatment and/or rehabilitation service to a drug-involved patient may, in fact, possess such a significant amount of negative feelings and/or attitudes, whether conscious or unconscious, that any hope for objective and effective diagnosis and treatment becomes diminished, if not completely eliminated. (p.492)

The end point is that the suffering patient evokes the kind of frustration in the therapist that they them self experience in life. This is classic projective identification.

Not sure if this has been brought up, but I was annoyed even before the game started that Heron's injury wasn't disclosed prior. The reason being is it gave us all the "here we go again" demotivating feeling right as we were getting into our seats. It also probably energized Providence... talk about a nice last second surprise.

Maybe I'm overthinking this, and I can only speak for myself as a fan. Had I known a day or two prior that he was questionable, I would've been pissed off for a few hours then gotten over it before the game started. Instead, I was just sitting there watching the line drop in real time. Because of the way the news was delivered, I was pissed right from the start.

Anyways... hope Heron is back tomorrow. Just don't like how this was handled.

And you wouldn't have had that "here we go again" demotivating feeling if it had been announced Thursday or Friday? If I was a betting man (and I'm not), I think must would and this thread and the "here we go again" feeling would have just happened days before and still carried right into the game.

He got dressed and tried it prior to the "official" warm-ups and it was no good. Then the news came out so it was basically a game time decision. Let's move on.

Yes I would've had that same feeling, but a day before rather than minutes before. Most humans respond the same way after hearing bad news. Their first response is denial/anger/defeat and then gradually they get over it and accept it with a sense of optimism for the future. It was a gut punch literally minutes before the game started, and rather than thinking "hey, we're favored by 5 points so we should still win" my thought was "boo, the line keeps dropping". It's all psychology, but a lot of the game is mental and all humans take time to get over news. Of course, had we won none of this would matter but we didn't.

Again, just my personal thought but I think it was a bad decision by the staff. I hope in the future they learn from it, because obviously it didn't help anybody on our side and arguably gave Providence some last minute momentum.

Per NY Post’’s Howie Kussow
Heron practiced today. Should be good to go tomorrow
