Head Coaching Changes

Let's not forget Mal Graham who i believe led the country in scoring one year. Those were some great years for NYU and NYC basketball

per zags

Damon Stoudamire, Miles Simon and Tommy Lloyd are all getting interviews, per @GoodmanHoops

We discussed each briefly here. I'm told there's a lot of momentum for Lloyd.

Sweet player who went on to win two championships with the Celtics in his two years in the NBA. Career was cut short due to injuries. Went on to be a lawyer.

Believe he became a judge (may still be) at some point.

Replacing Elwood McKenney on the bench of the Roxbury District Court.  Judge McKenney's son Peter played linebacker for UMass, served with me as a VISTA Volunteer in East Harlem, and later I saw his name listed in regard to some youth service programs in the Bronx.

I knew Mal at NYU (part of the team victory party when NYU beat St. John's to go to the NIT where we lost to BYU in the Championship game, was in my East Harlem apartment.  Quite the party as also in attendance were members of the Famous Flames (James Brown's Band).  Mal's NBA career ended due to illness which affected his endurance.  He never won a scoring title.

Heard on radio that Tim Miles got the San Jose St. job. So, he's back in the Mountain West. I thought it would have been with New Mexico. Bringing San Jose basketball to relevance won't be easy.

Rencher was leader recruiter in Creighton pursuit of Soriano btw

That doesn’t sound like the timeliest of landing spots for us then

Not a change, but;

Arkansas' Eric Musselman has finalized a contract extension through the 2025-26, per release. Deal is worth over $4 million dollars annually.

Good hire.  They need a clean cut guy from a clean cut program.

But just think about the irony.  For years UCLA and Arizona were considered the best programs out West.  And several times both programs tried to hire Mark Few.  Arizona is still a great job but now instead of hiring Few they hire his assistant.  That should tell where Gonzaga is now on the national stage.
