This has gotten ridiculous with the same crap spewed by the same people...We had one scholarship last year and used it on an incredibly good fit for this team in Rysheed Jordan...A perfect fit, IMO...This recruiting year is hardly over and carries into the spring, so I would wait before off any bridges...It just gives the typical posters who like to be negative and miserable an excuse to complain about Lavin and recruiting because he hasn't gotten a recruit by September...Remember that misery loves company and you'll understand why certain posters continually post what they post and what their true intentions are

I'm still not giving up on Lavin or even calling it a disaster, but it just kind of makes you do a double-take. I think that's a normal response. When you pull 2 great classes in a row then it seems like everyone's going to SHU it's just weird and that's all some people are saying. By the way, do you really think people WANT to be negative? Do you really think people WANT our team to fail? That's ridiculous if true. The biggest remedy for skeptics is success, and until we prove we can live up to our talent in the W column as well as the tourney, there will always be tons of skeptics among fans and also the media.
I have no problem with people "being negative" (althought I don't like when "fact" are made up to justify arguments) but can you tell me who all these people are who are going to Seton Hall? Also, who among them did we offer? Delgado is the only recruit that we looked at.

Not just going to Seton, but some who were at least interested. It just seems like we didn't make the final list of our targets like we did the past 2 years or even attract serious interest.

I believe that Lavin in most cases looks to get the very best players he can, rather than recruit by position. If he doesn't nail a super blue chip big, but instead grabs a highly touted guard like Jordan, it will pay off in a year or two when he does reel in that super talented big, and instead of being surrounded by mediocre talent, will be the missing piece of a very talented and deep roster. I believe that is exactly where we are situated now.
Once again to the doubters, roll this back just three years, and see how far we've come. We are on the cusp. Not sure if this year is the year, but with the right recruits, very soon we will hell one heck of a squad.
No one is thrilled with the way recruiting has gone so far this year, and it's been especially frustrating given recent highly rated classes, but can everyone just take a deep breath and appreciate -- and focus on -- the fact that this is the deepest, most talented team we've had in ages. Ages! And the reason we're in this position is solely due to Steve Lavin's ability to attract top-tier talent nationally -- from places like Illinois, Michigan, and Texas, places where recruits never even thought of us, let alone considered us. We're loaded with talent -- for me, anything less than the Sweet 16 will be a disappointment -- but that's one reason why recruits, just about all of whom are looking for significant playing time, are looking elsewhere (including considering an under-talented Seton Hall, where plenty of PT is up for grabs). Again, I'm not thrilled with the way recruiting has gone this year, but based on how well he's delivered to date, I have complete confidence in Lavin's ability to continue to bring top-tier talent to St. John's. So maybe for the first time in my half-century-plus (OMG!) of rooting for St. John's, I'm going to leave the recruiting worries up to the staff and focus on the team at hand.

When you have a lot of talent unless you are Kentucky or Duke it is tough to recruit, why would these kids want to come to st. john's if they know they might not crack the line up the first year. I see 2015 being much better, also depending on people leaving at the end of the year that could open up some playing time.

After the recruits this man has delivered in his three classes, no reasonable person would even be thinking about giving up or calling it a disaster. We were in basketball hell for almost a decade and the only mention of St. Johns with any top 75 recruit was a courtesy because they were local and Norm was a nice guy. How quickly some of you forget.
Maybe you could question Lavin's x's and o's or his program management, but questioning his recruiting is just silly. We may not even need anyone next year. I believe both Sampson and Obekpa will be back. Regardless, it is September freaking eighth. Lavin signed a five-star player in June this year. That should have silenced his recruiting critics. Is this going to be an annual thing with you people?
Differing opinions are cool, but at least be reasonable. If not, you are probably a contrarian just trying to stir the pot.

Well if you have any inside information then present it. That is a HUGE if. I don't expect Sampson to stay (obviously hope he does)...he easily could have been drafted last year and he will only get better. Before you say he's too raw and needs work, I present you Harkless who was quite raw as well. I also love how you said "is this going to be an annual thing with you people?". If by "thing" you mean being concerned because we will lose guys to the draft and overseas and need to recruit well, then yes. This year we are fine, but what about next year? Who says Harrison is coming back? Or Sampson? Or even Obekpa (most unlikely)? Hell, what if Jordan has a great freshman campaign and opts for the draft/overseas? What I don't understand is your total confidence that our players will stay and ignore millions or at worst 500k paychecks or so.
Joe, you can't recruit on the possibility/probability that Rysheed will be one and done. Those definite one and done's are few and far between. Our Seniors and Jakarr are really the only ones you can try to replace at this point. Recruits can't/won't commit in that situation. If you complain that kids aren't mentioning us, ok. But you can't complain at this time about no commitments.

I was talking about either drafted or going overseas. Right now Sampson is listed as #47 in the 2014 NBA draft. So not sure why some are saying he will likely stay. Clearly there is big interest. If Sampson goes next year it makes all the people concerned about recruiting for 2014 look a lot smarter. FWIW Obekpa is listed as #26 for the 2015 NBA mock draft.
I'm not ready to call Joe a homesexual yet. That statement implies that I am considering it. How could you possibly consider Lavin a disaster? Even if that is not your ultimate conclusion, how you are seriously considering it! How could any reasonable person be ready to give up on him before he has played a single game with a junior he recruited? That is my beef with your statement.
Sampson going pro is an entirely different issue. There are many, MANY differences between Moe and Sampson. I proclaimed Moe a lottery pick in October before he played his first game. Why? Because he was 6'8 1/2 and had guard skills. Sampson is more athletic, but he does not have those skills at all at this point. By December, Moe was in the first round of every single mock draft. Sampson is not in the first round in a single reputable mock draft and this is the third year since graduated high school. He is two years older than Moe was when the rumors started for him. He has not hit a single three-pointer. Who would pick Sampson over CJ Fair? You'd have to be insane at this point in time, and Fair is a late first/early second-rounder.

If Sampson is 47 he is not going pro, it will be an extremely deep draft this year so there is a good chance he returns unless he puts up ridiculous numbers.

And again you cross the line. I have perfect proof of a massive double standard on this site by the way...a few months back I mentioned homosexuality and I was scolded by a mod. Yet, you can get away with it even in the form of a personal attack and I don't expect any mod to say a word to you. Can we all just admit that there is a huge double standard? Some on here are allowed to be the golden boys who can do no wrong and others who voice their opinions are allowed to be scolded by them constantly with no consequences. You can disagree with opinions, that's totally fine. But there is no reason to turn replies into personal attacks all the time. I bet most of you are very nice and polite in person, so why do you act like such dicks at times on here? If you disagree give reasons why you feel the opposite and leave it at that. Is that so much to ask?
