Having seen LSU several times, I think Brandon is in for a long year. LSU is so poorly coached & has a number of selfish players, like Blakeney. Samp is really a team first type kid & is seeing playing time diminish lately. Additionally, another player returning from injury will further complicate things for him. Do wish this smooth shooter success, but he may regret his choice. LSU lost last night to College of Charleston, ouch!

Briscoe made right choice & is getting solid minutes for Cal. He has really embraced playing defense and should have a good season. He is much better off the ball, especially complementing Ulis, a far better PG option.

Could be wrong, but I don't see Diallo having major impact at Kansas. He is raw offensively & his best assets may be blocking shots & running the floor.

I was saying the same thing, in regards to a handful of selfish players on LSU's team. Blakeney definitely being one of 'em. In some ways, it's the AAU mentality. Several players from their team can't play the game from a mental standpoint, and they don't play any defense. If LSU bombs out, then I could see Jones getting fired after the season. Maybe, Sampson could end up back on the market after the season in that scenario.

I also agree with you, in regrds to Diallo. He may not be much of factor for Kansas this season. If he does
become any kind of factor, then I feel it'll be late in the season around tourney time. Doing lunch pail work and bringing intangibles.

LSU may have some selfish players but Ben Simmons looks like the ultimate team player. Whats he averaging like 5 assists per game? He will be a very good pro one day.

Imagine he played for a real coach

I never understood why during his recruitment some folks considered Diallo a possible one and done type player. From what I've seen he seems to do a good job catching lobs but like you guys have said the rest of his offensive game is put-backs and running the floor. I think he'll do well at Kansas though. He has such an unbelievable motor and outstanding physical ability that he'll fill the stat sheet (blocks, steals, rebounds, hustle stats) but he doesn't read as an instant star to me. Seems like a larger version of what Yakwe will hopefully be for us.

I have to admit I smiled when I saw that LSU-Charleston score. Their struggles are reenforcing to me that building a couple of pieces at a time and instilling a culture of hard work usually has a more lasting impact than one dynamite recruiting class. Simmons is special though (what was the appeal of LSU for him again?)

I know Diallo himself thought that, and his advisors, but not sure any fans ever thought that, especially here. His motor alone will likely make him pro money someday, but not any time soon.

As for Sampson, I had him penciled in for about 9 ppg down there tops so he's around that mark, whereas here he could have been up around 12-14. But he made his choice to be home.

He's apparently a good kid, but guards with his talent are not that rare, so I'm not sure why certain people here were in such an uproar. I'm quite happy with Ponds, who actually wants to be here, so that's pretty much where I stand with Sampson.

Diallo sure looked good in his debut tonight: 13 points (6-8 from the field), 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks, coming off the bench.

Never said he didn't have talent. Said he wasn't one and done, and I don't think putting up 13 and 6 against a 1-6 Loyola of Maryland team does anything to dispel that.

Didn't mean to suggest you did. Just pointing out that he put up some surprisingly good numbers in his first game.

Maverick Rowan was 1 for 11 from the field last night against Michigan. Is a starter and shooting 31% from 3 this year.

Thanks for the update guys. As we all know, it is still early (teams haven't played ten games yet), and it is easy for stats to fluctuate in a small sample of games. Players are going to have bad games. There were some on this Board who were ready to write Federico off based on a bad exhibition performance.

All four of the young men mentioned int this thread so far (Diallo, Sampson, Rowan and Briscoe) would have been fine additions to this team and will all probably have nice college careers no matter how long those careers turn out to be. Although a year older, I would included Carrington of Seton Hall as he was ours up until the previous staff stopped recruiting him.

As for the one and done talk, as we have all seen too often, it does not matter what we think (and sometimes what the pros think) its what the young men ultimately think and decide. Many fans also base their opinion on whether someone is one and done on their current ability and if they are NBA ready now. NBA teams also look at potential and where that player will be two years down the line especially if they don't see anyone available at their draft slot who would make a big difference immediately.

Only time I saw him last night but he looked lost.

Our third SEC honor of the season belongs to @ZayBriscoe. Congrats, Isaiah!

"One Day" will be June 2016

That kid Payton is starting to light up the Pac10. Hopefully Lewis and Broadnax start to come around.
