Paultzman at this point do you expect them not to succeed in bringing in a serviceable big?
Geez we dont have any idea what Keita can do - he looked good in practice yes but who was he playing against, Amar, Tariq? Could be very different story vs real BE bigs. And Roberts by all accounts is a freak athlete but very raw basketball player. Sound familiar (Yakwe) and certainly can’t be counted on in th BE when Keita gets early fouls or god forbid injured. And Marcellus is an undersized banger who no way can be the one big playing with four shooters. So what happens then Clark is our backup center and Trimble or Williams comes in as a fourth guard? 15 wins here we come. We need a big or next year will be yet another lost year. Love Chris, but he needs to wake the f up otherwise it’s gonna be start over and another 5 year rebuild. As someone on this site cautioned, never hire someone you can’t fire! Say it ain’t so Paultz.
A body yes I agree. Now that will not be a direction change as the way it is set up the following year we might suck again. But an NCAA tourney should be the goal around here. Seriously anyone thinking bigger is delusional. Maybe we make tourney and maybe recruiting starts to loosen up. Hiring and firing coaches, especially the face of the program every 5 years IS NOT the answer.

We don't dance next year Mullin should and probably will leave. Doubt that will be the answer to all of our problems however.

Thanks Paultz. The syntax of the question combined with your response confused me. But now armed with more 'korfee', i get it.
I was confused too. Confusing question I asked. But now I see the light ... at the end of the tunnel ... I hope.

Alas, Paultz is a human being. I think you’d be hard pressed to find any rational fan of the program who is not pessimistic right now. That said, assuming Ponds returns and we land a decent big, I do believe we can be competitive next year.
I agree with being very competitive this season, but just skeptical about the recruiting approach & targets currently. Critical to land Femi or comparable player in my opinion.
Fair asseent. What happened to rumors of staff shakeup? No legs?
Just as a point of comparison, I've observed three coaching staffs at UNLV, and each expected all three assistants to recruit. The success of the staffs varied, because bringing in highly rated players only matters if they are the right fit, stay for awhile, are coachable and if the staff actually can improve their performances.
If, in fact, SJU has only one coach spending any significant time recruiting, the odds are against long-term success.

Yes, there is a window of opportunity next year and as a result potential for better recruiting. A winning season has its upside. That said, as you inferred, that window may close the following season, especially if Simon opts for a chance to dance with a solid program closer to home.

If anyone runs into Matt in the locker room, check to see if he has an ass, because that's where he'll need to pull some rabbits from.

Ever seen Bruce Almighty movie where Jim Carrey makes monkey's come out of the mugger's ass? Just pictured a 6-11 center being pulled out of Matt's ass. Not a pretty picture.

Good thing then that Matt doesn't seem capable of landing a guy bigger than 6'8" 220.

This is a continuing ‘hypothetical’ from you that is unhinging me and compelling me to read tea leaves again. I’ll try to regain some composure and rationalize that how probable a Simon defection is next year may hinge on how long we dance next year, and our recruits, and what the team may achieve in the 2019-20 season.
I think Simon is critical (obviously) to our success in 2019-20 and would greatly impact our recruiting class that year. We need 2 successful to very successful seasons to get us over the hump. One ‘good’ year in 5 won’t do it.
Color me nervous.

If Mullin leaves next year then I want Callaway to replace him.

Wow. I was really hoping we were going to get him. Losing Owens and not getting Femi is devastating. We’re literally one Big man away and Matt can’t get it done.

Matt has failed us.

That is pretty harsh on Matt.

If I was a grad transfer I wouldn't consider SJU unless I knew if Ponds was returning. I wonder if they are hearing that when they talk to kids.

Agree Boo so it sounds like the vast majority of us fans need to latch on to the attitude of the few irrational fans who remain optimistic in order to keep our sanity. :)
Sanity is overrated.

Heard about a grad big reach yesterday to no avail. Challenging time. Interesting to see what is next

Hire Lavin as assistant coach and recruiter in chief? Sorry, couldn't resist. I guess we just have to be patient and see what gets pulled out of the hat.
