Greg St. Jean

complete insanity
What is?
Players backing him?
People saying he could come back down the road?
People saying he should stay on now?
To even think he should get the job, let alone being a realistic candidate is complete insanity

Of course its insanity

Reason I asked is recent posts were more about either coming back down the line or staying on staff in some capacity.

Not unusual for players especially those who played while he was on the staff to pledge support for his potential candidacy.

Doesn't matter he is not getting it. Not on any list. Is not being considered.

I hope he lands somewhere, though. Seems to be very knowledgeable about the game, and brings great enthusiasm.

Thanks for the scoop.

He'll land on his feet somewhere. If not him directly Chris has enough NBA connections that he'll find work.

With all due respect to GSJ, who by all accounts worked hard and is extremely well respected and well liked, I don’t see him having an immediate future here in any capacity. He’s not going to be the HC(no matter how many ex players advocate for him) and I assume the new HC is going to bring on an entirely new staff, as he should do. I thank him and wish him well in his future endeavors.

fordham, do you think the list is bigger than just Bobby Hurley and Tim Cluess? I have to think there's a few mystery candidates that we haven't heard about.

Why are you asking him like he knows anything? He’s said nothing specific about any of this and has done nothing but speak vaguely about rumors that have been circulating the fanbase for six weeks — complete with hedges like “ASU boosters trying to raise money.” Groundbreaking stuff.

Cragg wanted Hurley and sacrificed any leverage by letting that be known. That added a minimum of 250k a year and 2-3 years to his contract.

St. Jean stuff very odd on twitter - random celebrities (Michael Rapaport) and random sportswriters supporting him.

Not odd at all.

Pretty obvious GSJ wants the job and has asked his network for support.

Everyone else is campaigning for it... why not him?

Speaks to how well Greg is liked by players. I wish him well at his next stop and do appreciate the energy and dedication he exhibited here.
maybe one day he returns? Who knows.
This is exactly it re: GSJ. Guy could be a future HOF coach for all we know and if he is I hope it's at SJU. Issue is not his current capability or future potential. Issue was role he was asked to play at an early and inexperienced juncture in his career. Running in-game strategy at ~24 years old is not realistic for a Big East program, let alone occupying a valuable recruiting spot on staff when you have no experience recruiting. We could have gotten same value and production (which may very well have been meaningful) from GSJ on staff as a DOBO, grad assistant, or in some other player development capacity, with more experienced coaches occupying critical and limited assistant slots.

Lot of future CEOs of publicly traded companies out there currently in their 20s, but they aren't being given the keys now just because they might ultimately get there.

After Hurley gets his extension, I’d hire St. Jean provided his staff included Jim Calhoun or a similar older coach and a guy like Hsu.

Use the current leverage to create an airtight contract with prohibitive exit penalty for him and low buyout for us.

Or we can revisit this topic in four years when Cluess is fired after a first round tournament loss...when St. Jean has exponentially more leverage.

I suspect there will be an opening at Iona soon. I would recommend GSJ for the job.

Grasso a better guess imo.

This GSJ campaign on Twitter is very obviously scripted by GSJ. A bunch of celebrities who never Tweet about #sjubb suddenly making similar posts out of the blue.

The idea of him as head coach is completely laughable. I'd think even him as an assistant would be questionable, but as long as we got a good head coach I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

It’s not coming from him.

Well it's definitely coming from someone, so who is it?

I've never even seen half these blue check marks on the hashtag before.
