Gonzaga freshman Josh Perkins suffered a broken jaw when he was kicked by Georgia's Kenny Gaines in the second half of the Zags' 88-76 win on Wednesday night.

Gonzaga coach Mark Few told ESPN that Perkins will have his jaw wired and will be out indefinitely.

tough break for the kid

They let GA back into the game in the second half but shot 50% from the field and went 32 of 35 from the line. Fouling these guys is an automatic 2. I get the feeling their ability to shoot the 3 and our weakness in defending same will cause problems.

They are deep as well, 9 guys in double digit minutes (8 now Perkins is out). Stating the obvious but our short bench will leave us challenged all season.

they can't guard dribble penetration, GA was in the paint all night.Georgia tried to foul out both bigs and was successful.

The Zags have been our nemesis ever since the late 90's when they first beat us in the dance. We owe them big time. I hope we collect.

Not to jump the gun, but would we crack the top 25 with a win? I've seen a bunch of ranked teams go down lately, so I'd think we'd pass a bunch, including Minnesota who got votes.

It would be great PR but unless it impresses some recruits the ranking does not change our uncertain future since the team will be gutted of talent. As I and others have stated, it is not about making the Dance this year but evaluating management for the basketball organization's future. This is a business and the staff will be evaluated on both past performance and future potential. If it appears that they were a failure last year as a team when we had the most talent in years and are being out worked on the recruiting front, whatever this team does this year will be moot.

Who is going to guard wiltjer?

I might be attending tomorrow and sitting in the usual 114 spot with my wife and father in law.

I think we should, Creighton cracked one poll with their only big win over Oklahoma and Providence made one poll by beating no ranked teams.

Wow, this post is the definition of pessimism. We just won a huge game and showed many great things that we never thought would happen, and all you can say is how it doesn't matter because we are losing players next year?

Good thing you are not in charge. This team is more talented than last year's squad. We are rebounding much better with smaller guys, says allot about the forwards last season. We beat Gonzaga we will be ranked no doubt about it! If you have one foot in yesterday, and one in tomorrow you are pissing all over today!! Enjoy the moment! God bless all, and Happy Thanksgiving!

At least he is consistent

Who did we add to be more talented after losing two starters? You can say we are a year older and expect better things, but you can't say this team is more talented.

Oh my god who the hell cares. We won a big game last night and today is thanksgiving, can the pessimism go away for one day please. There's a good chance we lose to Gonzaga so you guys can have your fill tomorrow night. Have a good day everyone

Be fair. This was an impressive comeback game against a decent team, not a great one. A "huge" win would be beating Gonzaga. I was just pleased to avoid becoming more irrelevant. A strong showing v Gonzaga would be a "huge" boost. It is quite ok for 72 to put things in perspective re: where the program is. Although I share his concerns, all I can do is pull for these guys & hopefully enjoy some success this season. Next year seems easily defined, unless miracles occur on recruiting end. However, let's leave that for another day. Go Johnnies!

We are. A much more talented team this year, it's simple addition by subtraction! Jakar Sampson was a horrible stiff, and Sanchez was as well. They were nice kids and wish them well, and they would once in a blue make a nice play. They were both horrible at spacing, and never moved without the ball. So yes this team is much more talented

you can say the chemistry may be better this season, we will see. You cannot lose a guy who is on an NBA roster and another in the D-League without replacing them with more talent and say we are more talented. Geez.

Exactly. I was wondering last night how was Ronkonski going to stay with Pointer. However we have the same dilemma should we play man defense. So this leads me to believe we'll be in a zone. Have to continue to push the ball upcourt to tire their big men.

Talent & utilization/execution are two different issues. This team is more experienced, not more talented. Perhaps team chemistry has improved (early though), but not talent level.

It's not pessimism, Jack. It's being balanced. Just like last week when you were proclaiming the program dead because we didn't land Briscoe. I just have a problem with bipolar fans. It was a nice win, and if we win our winnable games we will have a good season. It's nothing to be ecstatic about and nothing to complain about either. Just be realistic.
