Posh and Curbelo were must see TV on defense in that second half. Was a complete hostile takeover and it started with those two pressuring the ball. Their impact was felt on the other end as well. The Posh drive and kick to the corner for a Belo 3, gave us our lead and there was no looking back.

The Menace and The Maestro. But who’s who?
I could see Storr being first off the bench and playing "starters" minutes by the end of the season. No starter though unless Mathis goes into an extended tailspin offensively or Storr suddenly becomes a lockdown defender. IMO Storr starts next year.

Storr and Pinzon both have a long ways to go defensively. Both are noticeable bad on that end. I think that's the only hold up from Storr taking a starting spot.

Something I've been keeping a close eye on is minute distribution. With so many deserving and capable players on this deep roster, it will be interesting to see how CMA finds playing time for all of the guys. Especially the ones who think they deserve more than they are getting. Could certainly lead to some guys being unhappy.

Another thing I'm keeping an eye on is Posh. Still very early, but he hasn't taken the step forward on the offensive end we had envisioned. Especially after hearing about all of the work he had put in this offseason on his shooting. Still 0% from 3.

I think it is time to accept that Posh is who he is offensively. You are not going to see any major improvements in his shooting.

Yeah, Pinzon really has trouble defending on the ball. He must hit shots to garner some PT and so far that has been spotty. No fault of his, but seems injury prone, which also makes it difficult to find minutes regularly. Imo, he may not be in regular rotation this year unless he quickly evidences more value in a short college basketball season.

Yep. And even without 3 point shooting, Posh is still a great player. His stats right now are 11 PPG / 5 APG / 4 RPG / 2 SPG / 48% from the field / 83% from the free throw line. If that's his stat line at the end of the year, that's a great all around year. Posh has and will always be a defensive first guard.

We lucked out getting Posh due to him being underrated because of shoulder injury in junior year of HS. Yeah, his perimeter shooting may have limited upside, but his contribution on both ends of court and ability to disrupt is unique and godsend to a program stuck in neutral for 20 + years. Can’t imagine the last few years without him.

St. John’s and luck??

I don't think these second half surges are by chance. At least against this level of comp, it seems the pressure defense ballhawks like Posh and Curbeloare causing mental and physical fatigue in the second half. This team just doesn't seem like a fit for a grind it out, half court game. Our half court offense has been stagnant, and the playbook against us on the defensive side is work the clock until we get caught in a switch or lose track of the 3 ball specialists.

A couple of concerns—When the team is playing poorly, especially in the first half, I’d like to see CMA use a timeout to reset and restrategize. I’d also like to see us use Zone defense more, and mixing the zone with man-to-man.

I totally agree. I actually feel for Posh a bit. He didn't have to come back to St. John's this year, he could have chose to transfer just about anywhere. I really just want to see him rewarded with a ton of success here this year.

I think Storr showed some serious flashes on the defensive end last night. A couple moments where he really locked up. There was one early in the game where he locked up his man but got called for a foul and it was a very bad call. With his length and athleticism theres nothing stopping him from being a solid defender. I think he will get there. He must know that strong defense is a key to Mike A's heart and will earn him more minutes

Yeah, on that play he established position, was leaning back with hands straight up and made no contact and got called. Horrible call.

He is fine. He is not forcing or trying to do what he is not able to

Sorianos 18 rebounds doesn’t scream out for record book attention but I don’t know if SJU has 25 other players who have accomplished that in their over one hundred years history.
