Game Thread -- SJU vs. Charleston

Reigning this back in and away from the Joe fodder... CofC did not look good. Completely overmatched. I guess we did what we needed to do. Good to see Jakarr have a nice bounce back game. Harrison saved our skin down the stretch. Jones was a fanstastic pickup, Phil had a great 2nd half, played in control, made some tough shots. Garrett is just a solid player. Nice to see him stroke the 3 ball as well. Obekpa did not play a ton (not sure of his mins) and Pointer is clearly going to be a bench player if we ever get to full strenght. TBD on Balamou.

My only critique on D is we did leave quite a few open 3s. CofC did a bad job and missed quite a few open ones. But they had no answer inside and were completely outmatched athletically.

We need to clean some things up but a good W on the road. We bent but did not break.

Right. Being ranked doesn't make you a very good team. If we were ranked 20 something this board would be in heaven. UConn has a lot of great players and they will finish better than us this year. Can you explain to me the logic behind hailing Charleston who looked awful and is lightyears away from being in the top 25, while saying UConn isn't good while in the top 25 after beating Michigan St? That's not even debatable. We would get blown out by UConn.

Sampson hasn't shown he can consistently be a big scorer for us. Up until now he has basically rebounded and blocked a few.
 
Idiots like Austour and SJU alum will be ignored if they keep posting drivel. In other news, I really hope Auburn wins because I want no part of Murray St.

If you were paying attention you would know that noone was saying Charleston was much better than us. Just that there were factors suggesting it should be a close game.

I don't ask to be friends with anyone. Everyone thought Charleston was this beast that was going to beat us. I laughed and said they were overreacting because we are better. I was laughed at. I said we'd win by 10+ and I was told I was crazy. We won by 11. It's up to you if you don't want to admit I was right. Not many people want to because it hurts. Anyway, nice win...I wasn't scared of Charleston and they are not good. People on here need to stop making mid majors out to be these scary monsters unless they are Murray St, Detroit, Gonzaga, etc.. If we play Murray St. I don't like our chances. Hopefully people realize now that we are supposed to beat the teams like Charleston.

Joe, whites who joined the civil rights movement faced police dogs, angry mobs, billy clubs, fire hoses, bullets (some rubber, some real) and jail time, not to mention life-threatening and, in some cases (see Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner), life-taking violence. You, on the other hand, are catching some flak from fellow posters on a basketball forum. Hardly the same thing! To even think of comparing yourself ("it takes a lot of courage ...") to heroic individuals like the civil rights demonstrators you've cited is not only absurd and flat-out stupid, it's offensive. Again: stay passionate, but think before you post.
