So we all know the NY Post is kinda a joke paper, but my this happened today and I got such a kick out of it.
I texted my buddy who is a Seton Hall guy and is pretty good with BE news in general. I said, looks like Porter Moser is the new coach.
He said 'I heard he is staying Chicago'. To which i replied 'I can see that the 8 year 16MM deal seemed a little fishy'. And he said 'yeah, that didn't happen'.
So I posted on Twitter 'At 16MM Moser would have been the third highest paid coach in the big east seems fishy that he would say no'
Zach Brazille response 'who said he said no' then two hours later ...

The fact of the matter is there is a core group in charge of this search what we are hearing is pure speculations.
I don't buy there is an internal struggle of pro-Cluess, anti-Cluess, and Repole money. I think we have an AD who has a tight check book
who is making a list and offering what he can. I don't think the offers are that $16MM compelling, so we get rejected and go to the next
person on the list. This in combination anxiety fan base and a sensationalist local tabloid equals one wild rollercoaster
. Classic St Johns

RSR2 NEW STAFF:
Head Coach: Shaheen Holloway 6 years $750k/yr
AHC: Mark Jackson year to year paid a % of the gate
AC: Metta World Peace year to year - we introduce him to Jay-Z and guarantee he will produce a record with Ron Ron
AC: St Jean - year 3 at 100k for each player he retains after this dumpster fire.
For a few bucks, you could probably even get Jayson to come in and work with the kids on their shooting skills
I know nothing, but didn’t the Chicago Tribune report Tuesday, that Moser got an offer of an 8 year deal worth between $17-$18mm and isn’t Moser quoted in the article, saying “You can be rich without the $$$ signs.”
And didn’t his letter to the Loyola Community give the impression that he turned down $$$$’s to stay with his team and further imply that he’s not measured by typical ‘wealth’, that’s not him?
Just sayin’...
It's possible he did turn down 16MM - 18MM, my point was, he definitely turned us down, NYPOST Zach, tweet, 'who says he turned (STJ) down', then hours later did a 180.
I think it's fair to say the NY Post is sensationalist and we there are other people out there probably yourself and poster like Paultz that are closer to the pulse of what's going on the the Zachs and the Zags.
It just seems to me STJ wouldn't have leaked because there is nothing to gain. If it was a brand name like our fav Rick Patino you might leak and say we offered him 5 years and 25 million he refused in ordered to tell the fans 'heck we tried'. Moser doesn't gain from leaking, he already could use it to leverage LMU, leaking at that point would just embarrass STJ. That's why I think that the reported offer in combination with the off the cuff remark of a buddy I trust makes me think the report isn't whole accurate.
I have no doubt he turned down more than his current salary. And his statement that money isn't everything to him is true.
I guess the point is moot anyway as he won't be coaching STJ. I jmaybe seeing the world through tinted lenses, but if we have 16-18MM to spend, I would hope we could sign a more prominent coach than Moser. BTW my phone wants to change Moser to Poser and i get a chuckle every time.
I tend to doubt we would be offering 8 years guaranteed after the last two hires both left with time left in their guaranteed deals. But I would find it plausible that the budget be in the 2 million per range since we paid that for the previous 2 hc.
All in all seemed like a desperation move to the AD to get the best guy they could when it turned out to be the best guy they couldn't. At least they thought it was. On both accounts it wasn't.
I frankly see us as looking very unattractive, a school who terminates well known names after they took teams to a tourney bid, and whose roster is in tatters. Who wants to work for an employer so unrealistic as to fire after what could be viewed as high water campaigns for a downtrodden program.
Cragg finding this is a much tougher job than anticipated. Fans finding Cragg may not be the high powered exec that they elevated him to with little basis.
