Ga. Tech game

Obekpa should be called the human eraser if marvin webster doesn't mind

Another reason why it's so puzzling we don't press with him back there defending the goal. 2 v. Obekpa on a fast break might be advantage Obekpa.

Welcome back Branch. You are needed badly.

Thank you on both points. Agreed x2.

Great 2nd half to get a quality win

Love watching Obekpa block shots...Great passing from D'Lo and nice to see them pressing a bit more which led to some turnovers...I hope they keep that up

One last point...THIS is the type of win you build off of, not some BS Monmouth or Longwood game. Because these guys can watch the final 25 minutes of this game and KNOW they can do it. Not that GT is the cat's pajamas or anything, but this is still an ACC team that had them down 19-4.

Study the tape, fellas, get on the same page and play a full 40.

Instead of takin the layup, Greene wanted to impress everybody by dunking night tondo it he took a giant crow hop and traveled

Get off this kid's back. He has two turnovers this SEASON and you call him out on it? Hysterical. I hope you called out Sanchez on all three of his to be fair.

I was really just stating what happened but ok, it was a smart play

Don't worry about it. For some reason Marillac thinks a PG who gets an assist every 16 minutes isn't the problem. (by comparison Branch is under 10 and Rysheed is under 6). Why is he so awful at that? He doesn't penetrate, he doesn't see the floor, he isn't creative, he just isn't a PG and it hurts the team. If he was just the backup SG he'd be a tremendous asset but why Lavin allows him to control the ball and offense, especially when he's on the floor with Branch or Jordan, is completely beyond me. I'd rather have Dlo start at the 1 and PGIV at the 2 with explicity instructions to never hold the ball for more than 3 seconds. Obviously there are other problems with the team but effective PG play cures a lot of what ails you.

In a nut shell;

@jeffborzello: St. John's is starting to speed the game up a little. Trapping, more aggressive defense. Length in the lineup.

As close to a must win game this early in the season and they finally stepped it up. Now bring forty minutes of hell against Fordham and not dick around the first 25 minutes and put yourself down by 10. Well done both coaching and players the final 15

Branch, D'Lo penetrating and dishing or drawing fouls was key today.

Fts bailed us out today.

Well, they get credit for hitting the majority of the FTs.

FT's are a result of aggressive play. This team should be living at the line with all the guards and athletes.

When your starting "point guard" neither penetrates nor feeds the post that's not going to happen.

GA Tech is about the same level as Penn State......a decent team in a very good conference. If this is a good win, than the loss last night should not be considered that bad of a loss.

A great gutsy win by the team. should really press more next time. st john's has to get the offense from the beginning. comebacks are great theatrics but it ain't going to happen all the time against a team like syracuse.

The one troubling aspect of this game besides the first 13 minutes was the play of Sanchez. 3 turnovers 0-3 from the field 2 of which were 3s and he looked even worse the those numbers indicate. With the depth this team has they can overcome a poor performance by any player on any given night but Sanchez has looked lost all season. I recall one great post move early in the year but ever since he's been living at the 3 pt line.

He's just bridging the gap until one or both of the other guys decides they want to step up.

I was responding to every through your post, didn't mean to single you out. The poor kid is under a microscope. Every time he doesn't pass the ball to Marco/Hooper, when he's not aggressive, when he is aggressive, etc. He can't win. He's in the position he's in now because Branch and Jordan haven't stepped up. I think that has changed a little after today. Branch needs to be a focal point.

Agree, of the four primary guards on the team Phil is the last I want logging minutes at point. Yet he has become the main point once again.

I feel bad saying this because Phil had not played badly. It's not a criticism of him, but rather the way lavin uses him. Off the ball he adds value to this team, especially when he gets hot because he's capable of carrying us. Which is why playing him at point makes even less sense, it doesn't accentuate his skill set and in fact hurts him at times. Today he spent most of the game floating around the perimeter dribbling and passing east/west.
