Francessa says

Listen I am no Francessa fan, but let's be honest this team cannot throw the ball into the ocean. They are arguably one of the worst shooting teams in college basketball, and it hurts when someone speaks the obvious. Having said that, Francessa is an arrogant s.o.b whose time will come to an end. He has way too many listeners who can't stand his guts!

You know who has a worse field goal percentage than St John's? 86 other teams.

You know who is in that group? Villanova and Cincinnati to make no mention of Providence and South Florida, Penn State and Texas, South Carolina and Vanderbilt, Georgia and Auburn, West Virginia, Nebraska and TCU, Northwestern and Miss. State.

SJU wasn't even one of the 15 worst power conference shooting teams.

In the last 4 games of the season, St. John's shot 6 for 50 from beyond the arc. Enough said.

"On a comedic note, Francesa declared that winter was over and done with last week. It snowed on Saturday !! "

And last night.

Yesterday he diminished the NIT, compared it to the CBI and every other also-ran post season tournament for losers.

He should know about losers.

Johnnie's got a gift. Someone pulled strings etc. Also they are flat out the worst shooting team in the world!
We made not shoot great but we played with heart tonight. Plus we showed fat a-- we deserved to this bid, although I'm sure he'd never admit it

Irrespective of his feelings toward his alma mater...he is an inarticulate boob, incapable of asking a question in less than 100 words...i find him to be a tough listen and, in fact, don't any longer...

I assume that just about every coach and player that does appear on his show believes him to be a phony and a joke

Agree but he laughs all the way to the bank

I almost didn't believe my ears yesterday when he was discussing the St. Johns UVA game he said he was going to watch the game and made it sound like he does not miss St. Johns games when he can watch. Surprising

He also said that no one cares about the NIT. And he ripped a caller for making a big deal about Robert Morris beating Kentucky.

He's not going to watch SJU vs. Virginia.

Man, I don't know about you guys, but I wish the name Francessa and any references to him were banned here.

The guy was non-existent on campus as a student, never had season tickets, and his post-SJU life has never shown any affinity towards the school. I'd be glad to talk about him if he ever comes back to the fold as an alumnus proud of his school and a fan of the program. Until then, I just hate seeing threads about him.

I actually love this thread. I hate Francessa, he's a total blowhard. But I love having one place to see all the stupid things he says.

Statistics about Team Shooting percentages are as deceiving as the numbers reveal..Illinois was a NCAA team, capable of decently competing and finishing in the top tier of the Big 10..They are a good rebounding, 2nd chance points team, often these stats don't get recognized except by the statisticians.

Our shooting woes are compounded by the fact that we miss a lot of shots in a row, don't get the rebound and fail to defend properly.. Largely, why our record was what it was.. The type of shots we take, particularly long range ones are poorly conceived, outside any scheme, except in the mind of the shooter.

So, while statistically we may not be the worst shooting team in the USA, we shoot poorly enough that it takes us out of games very quickly. And, to fans, spectators, TV commentators it comes across as a bad shooting team.

Not having a strong inside game, with a big man scorer making lots of put backs, hurts us in game situations and we settle for poor statistical shooters, individually, Greene in particular, taking the ill advised prayer at the 35 shot clock buzzer.

We've also been in several blowouts against quality teams in the BE, where we score points off team's who have backed off defensively or against 2nd string of the opponent. Making the game appear closer than it actually was.

I agree with much of your post. BAd shot selection can drive a shooting percentage down, and we've done that repeatedly this year. Also agree that if you have a competent inside game, shooting percentage also goes up. I actually believe that over the last 5 games, the ball moved more consistently when Harrison was removed form the equation and Branch inserted. Guys seemed to more willingly make the extra pass when they could have shot the ball. CO seems very good at this. It's not toofair to put it all on Harrison, since with Branch back things move better anyway. We played our best ball from the time Branch was made a starter until his injury at GT.

The year Johnnies went to NIT with Jarvis, Jarvis wanted some air time on the Fan. Mike turned him down as he made a huge point of doing so because it was NCAA time and no one was interested in the NIT. On the face of it that's fine. The Johnnies being a NY team forever could be easily understood for wanting some pub. It was not enough for Mike to tell us Jarvis called but was told the Fan had no time for him. It must have been every hour that he let us know he shut Jarvis out. You could hear in his voice he considered himself some sort of big time hero. Whatever NY people thought of Jarvis it could not have been enough to cover up how rude Mike was to Jarvis and also fans of SJU.
