FrancesaCon

So what if Francesa is jumping on the bandwagon. So what if he wet his Diet Coke bottle with accolades. The important thing was he talked SJU hoops. We complain he doesn't care, then we complain he comes across as -- heaven forbid -- a fan.

I'm not complaining I love the fact he was talking Johnnies!

So he's kind of like those random fans who stumble on Redmen.com and Jungle after ALL these years after a loss. Just this time Mike becomes a fan after a win :)

Not you. But anytime Francesa is brought up around here causes some to have spasms.

It would be great for local recruiting ( even nationally on FS 1) if he talks more SJUBB. The more interest and air time the team gets the better chance of landing a big recruit and filling the Garden like the "good old days". Of course winning does not hurt things either.
One of the new hosts (JJ I think) was bashing the new big east on his show this weekend. He was obviously a Syracuse grad and said "Syracuse had no choice but to leave a bad conference". I tied like hell to get on and tell him it was because of Syracuse and Pitt that the Big East became a "bad conference". Anything positive from a guy like Mike can counter some of the negative stuff you hear on WFAN about the league and St. Johns.

You are absolutely correct. Except, he has an actual audience, as opposed to some internet posters who are convinced they are writing critical investigative masterpieces, when no one cares. :)

Really annoying listen.

It's amazing what winning will do to people. Win and they become fans and hop on the bandwagon. Lose and they're no longer fans and hop off. But so what? I'll take all fans, warm-weather or not! ;)

Yes. I don't personally care about Francesa, but him talking the program up, can only be a good thing.

That kid is an absolute moron. I heard that, and he is a wet behind the ears jackass. Ask him how long it took Connecticut to get good in the Big East.
How about 15 years. These people think these things happen overnight. Even on this board half the posters must be Kenny Nolan fans singing" I like dreaming".
It take an unbelievable amount of hard work to turn things around. The Big East was a great basketball conference that was led astray by football dollars.
Providence and St. John's were trending up even if they were in the old "Big east"
Make no mistake though their is an Old guard contingent deep in Queens that still doesn't believe in Lavin, or Anything that is not New York centric. They are completely out of touch and sadly they still have a lot say at St. Johns

With the NFL Super Bowl over and conference tournaments coming up soon, this is naturally when his show and others get more into College BB. I don't mind him praising SJU that's fine with me, I have other problems with him, but to be fair, he does have a big audience and wield a fair amount of power, so on our side is better than not on our side.

He has taken a lot of shots at us over the years and of course we have the whole scholarship fiasco, BUT, Brandon Tierney is great and much more of a full time SJU supporter, but let's face it, he is not Mike Francesa.

Welcome aboard Mike. if we lose, he'll be offboard, whatever.

I hate that kid another ass clown who went to Newhouse. JJ should have never won fantasy phenom, he sounds like he has a coke problem when he talks. For the record I was not happy with Lavin starting 0-5 and wanted to hire Pearl. We are winning games doing one game at a time. Hopefully we keep winning and make the NCAA Tourney.

I have to take offense to this. I know JJ personally - he's a friend of mine and we went to Syracuse together. He doesn't have a coke problem - that's a stupid thing to say. Yes, he's a Syracuse guy and will always be a SU homer. However, he's a big-time college basketball fan and loves the game. He's not an expert by any means and doesn't pretend to be one. He's a fan like all of us. When St. John's is good and the Big East is good he'll give credit where credit is due. Finally, he's just 25 years old - give him time and he'll keep getting better.

He crapped on us. I am not gonna have a Cuse fan crap on us even though I have a lot friends who went there. I should not have said coke problem I apologize for that , he sounds like he has a nasal issue.

He's born and raised in Staten Island - it's just his accent. He's not a St. John's fan and he never will be - he went to Syracuse. But he's a good fan and he'll give us props and the Big East when we deserve them.

Is that still the case now that Cuse is out of the BE? If the old BE was together I'd tend to probably agree with that. But now that Cuse is out of the conference I don't think any Cuse fans give a rats ass about SJU, Gtown, Nova or anyone in the BE.

Matt, I can appreciate your sticking up for your friend JJ. You say he's "just" 25 years old. I agree he's young, but at 25, even if you're a guy, you should have some maturity and common sense. If he were working in a corporate setting at 25, the expectations for his behavior would be high.

I did listen to some of his rant while in my car, not having a clue as to who he was, and I thought he came across as an uninformed, reactive and IMHO, extremely annoying.

Disagree. Always appropriate no matter who the audience and what the career. YMMV.
