Fordham, Thur. Dec. 8, 6:30pm, FS1/570AM

Let's hope this is the last time Fordham is ever a revenge game

I don't see the name of their PF who destroyed us inside last year. Forget his name, but no name on the roster looked familiar.

Ryan Rhoomes had a career-high 26 points and a season-high 12 rebounds to lead Fordham to a 73-57 victory, extending their winning streak to five games.

He is gone...

I'm guessing Lovett who was wearing a boot will still be out

Until we hear otherwise, I'm thinking they erred on the side of caution. He was putting weight on it as he moved around. He was walking with a little hitch in his gait but that might be because he had the boot on. If it was more serious they would have kept him off his feet.

Fwiw, at half time I spoke to someone close to program who said precisely what you just posted. Fingers crossed.

As much as I want to beat Fordham, we should be extremely cautious with this injury. I would hold him out until at least until the Penn State game unless he is 100 %. We need him in the Big East.

If Mullin has Ellison and company deny Joseph Chartouny the ball it should be a win. We have a tendency to make players like Joseph Chartouny look like All World. He is their D'Angelo Harrison and his name better be on the chalk board this week.

He didn't play Saturday against Fordham so maybe he is hurt.

Andrew that's didn't play for (not against) Fordham, correct?
I have no idea about the Rams this year...
What's your take on a W for us:
With and without LoVett? Is there a realistic chance Fordham could beat us either way?
Thanks.

Think it was due to stitches on his elbow or something, would imagine he'll play Thursday.

Fordham's entire game seems predicated on pressing and trapping and turning teams over, which they are doing at an incredible rate - they are 1st in the country in steals. Obviously Marcus will be a big swing factor in how effective we are in handling that.

Fordham also takes a ton of 3s (21st in the country in attempts at 26 per game) but they haven't generally made many (31.5%, 281st in the nation). That said, when you are taking that many if they do go in there's a lot of upside, so something to watch.

Good points! Hopefully with Roomes gone, our guards won't be inclined to help out in the post & thus be aggressive on perimeter. As an aside, something bothersome last night was the amount of easy buckets by our opponent. With our streaky team offensively, we just can't afford to allow that. It goes beyond our interior guys guarding rim. Seems too often opposing guards too easily turn the corner on us.

Looking forward to SJU soundly beating my second alma mater. :)

Appears they have no inside game whatsoever, but to date neither do we. They seem to play high-risk, high-reward game, gambling for turnovers which has lead to a lot of extra possessions for them but also a lot of inflated shooting % for their opposition. Who wins that balancing act, and how both teams shoot from 3, probably decides this game.

They've hit a bit of a wall of late losing 3 in a row, but played a really good UTA team well at home. Not an easy game, especially if Marcus is out, in general but especially given their defensive style. Will be a lot for Ponds to handle solo.

In case anyone is on the fence about going on Thursday, here is the gallery from last year's Fordham game. Maybe it will serve as motivation to make Carnesecca Arena nice & loud.

Looks like plenty of tickets still available!

Not want we want to hear, come guys, lets dish out some payback & protect the house like these guys do :p

I follow both teams. The Rams are bad and are struggling after two awful loses. They chuck up 3's, have no real 3 shooter, and have 0 inside game. As long as we contain the German kid, Sengfelder, which is easy to do since he can't keep up with the pace of the game due to the up tempo defense they play, then we should be good.

I really hope, really hope, our "coaches" are emphasizing the basics on how to break the press and the trap, and in-bounding the ball. It's a matter of staying calm and staying collected. If we succeed at that then we should win the game.

Looking forward to this toilet bowl of a game though!

Ponds, for as good as he is offensively, is not an intense defender. Neither is Ellison, in addition to not having very good lateral movement. Mussini, while an intense defender, has his limitations size wise and athletically. CSUN had some athletic guards. We are always going to have trouble defending athletic backcourts, and unfortunately our guards are getting very little interior help when they get beat. As my buddy Dave said to me Tuesday, Ponds is going to really get tested when he starts going up against the Harts and Brunsons of college basketball.
