Fordham (MSG), Sat., Dec. 16, 3:30p, FS1

The best and each team had really good rosters.
We had some more, CCNY, LIU, St. Francis, Seton Hall.
We had a tremendous pool of top players in the Met area
and they stayed home .
You could go to a local school yard and
there would be lots of talent there.
NYC and Basketball ruled.
Yes , a few of the top kids would get away but , a lot more stayed home .

The Stith Bros , Freddie Crawford went upstate to St Bonaventure . Miles Aiken too .

Art Heyman went to Duke , Larry Brown to NC .

The Mahoney Bros , Brian and Charlie , went to Manhattan . Don’t know how Louie didn’t get Brian out of St Agnes in RVC . Brian was a vet good College Player.

It was a great Era for College BB in NYC

Charlie.Mahoneynwas the first basketball player.I ever saw live. Holiday Festival. It was my first game, we were there for SJU and caught the end of Manhattans game. He was very feisty if my memory serves me right.

Charlie, George Bucci and my good friend Billy Campion were all talented, tough Jaspers on solid team

I didn't say it did against Michigan and Dayton, though his not being ready for this stage was on display. It was readily apparent to anyone that went to Brooklyn that it did.
To be fair to Dunlap, we don’t have the personnel right now to set him up and utilize his greatest skill. Luis would really be the only guy that could manufacture him some looks. Maybe Taylor to a lesser degree.

Get Nigel James next to Wilcher next year and Dunlap will be tickling the twine.

The initial post would have the causals believing all Jenkins does is shoot. His assist totals beg to differ. Last game vs BC, 8 ast and zero turnovers. That loss is not totally on him. Dingle and Ledlum missed very make-able shots. Shots they made against Utah.
Yeah I have no big issue with Daniss, it's on Dingle and Ledlum. I would rather see Alleyne playing but not at the point, let Daniss have the point, start Alleyne.

It’s funny and I’m not picking on any poster but , you have to admit it’s funny for us Arm Chair QB’s to speculate and recommend to Pitino for this team to play Zone .

Bobby Knight , whom Pitino respected immensely , never played Zone . If you couldn’t play man to man, you couldn’t play for Bobby .

Louie was like that too. Never really used Zone , Al LoBalbo , widely respected Defensive Wizard , never liked Zone either .

Yet , Boeheim only played Zone all those years at. Syracuse

The players today are far more talented and versatile which is why varying defenses and offenses is fairly necessary. One reason for Boeheim’s downfall is that teams had an easy time adjusting to his same zone year to year. Looie in his later years had issues as well with defense and refusal to play zone and if you question that you were not around for Looie’s last few years.

In fact tell me of another current coach who doesn’t vary his defenses to keep teams off balance. And while it sounds cool to call people arm chair QBs, we have all seen what happens to coaches who don’t adapt to current standards of play and stick by what had been successful decades ago, just ask Coach Anderson. I for one believe that between his staff and recognizing the level talent today that Coach Pitino will adapt and add a few wrinkles to his coaching repertoire.

I definitely like Nigel here but unless he is Abel to reclassify (or did and I missed it), he is Class of 25 so it wouldn’t be next year.

Plus, as we've seen with Wilcher, he's not going to be anywhere near an impact player his first year on campus

You seem offended by being grouped with all the rest of us Arm Chair QB’s including me and a 100 other guys . It wasn’t meant that way .

It’s what we do as fans , isn’t it ?

Pitino is pretty much today what he’s always been as a Coach . A Man to Man Disciple . Doubt he changes much going forward .

What will change is Player selection . He knows he wants quick , fast reacting players who can stay with their Man . He won’t make the same mistake again and pick players who can’t handle man to man .

Your point about Boeheim and his adherence to Zone throughout his Career bears mention too.

I would say that his Results in the ACC were not up to his usual BE standards . But , you could also make the Case that SU , along with Pitt, BC, ND,L’ville , VaTech, all have seen their programs decline similarly . Their penance for leaving the BE.

As the adage goes , “ it’s not about the X’s and O’s as much as it’s the Billy and Joe’s”

All of those FB schools going into the ACC weren’t getting the same caliber of Players they were when they were all in the BE . They became , for the most part, also rans in the ACC . Still are .

Using CMA in the same sentence or paragraph as RP doesn’t equate . CMA won very well at Missouri and Arkansas until he wasn’t getting his teams further in the League standings or not being competitive in the NCAA tournament . Fans at both schools , like here , became disillusioned with his results .

weird timing for these games

Penn State vs. Georgia Tech at 12
SJ vs. Fordham at 330

Big gap between games

TV shows our game as 330…anyone know any different?

If you listened to Coach Pitinos press conference he did mention they are working on a zone defense but didn’t feel they are ready yet. He also mentioned that his match up zone at Louisville helped him win a National Championship so I’m sure he will add it to his repertoire before long. He did admit however that he miscalculated the time it would take for this group of players to become good defenders which seems to be the main issues right now. Hoping this happens soon with the Big East schedule looming.

His press conferences are great and, in many cases, are tutorials for aspiring coaches.

We all wish the Team defense improves but , we have to be prepared for BE Guards to torture us one on one . They will .

They have seen our scouting reports .
