Florida Hires New A.D. in 3 Months

The signing of Goff could be the third home run the SJU administration hit following Mullin and Matt.

I'm a little concerned regarding this hire, Anton had a short stay at Hartford is he committed for the long haul?

Hartford or St. John's and the Big East?

If he is successful enough here to earn a bigger job then we'll be able to say we made a great hire.

The super star ADs usually populate the football schools for obvious rea$ons. For us the best choice is an "up & comer". As Mase said, if he succeeds and goes on to better opportunities, so be it. A win/win for everyone even if he gives us five solid years or so.

Like basketball recruiting, we won't get the five star candidates too often. He seems to be a skilled, driven guy with great communication skills. That will be a plus on the fundraising front as well as professionalizing our "ancient & tired" AD. He has a challenge for sure, but, without knowing much, I like the choice.

Going from Hartford to SJU is like going from Leah Dunham to Anna Kendrick. You aren't going to the Jessica Alba level but you dump Leah in a second for Anna

maher good analogy, but what did he really do at Hartford besides the Under armour deal, he was there too short of a time period. I wish him well this is a very tough job for an ad (an aging eroding fan base, one of the worst on campus arenas, a program that has not won an ncaa game since Bill Clinton was president, a slew of coaches since Louie that can't manage sustained success, apathy from the media etc.) can he bring us back, time will tell and that's what the program needs .

Please translate for those of us locked into the era of Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, Jayne Mansfield, and Ann B. Davis.

You realize that a good portion of the posters on this board have no clue as to who the person in the middle is (if they actually look away from the two at the ends) but get your drift.

Pictures to go with your analogy. Although I knew who you were talking about, sometimes a picture (or in this case, pictures) are better than words. Sums it up quite nicely.

The ever-lovely Phyllis Diller, of course.

Jessica Alba could definitely turn a gay man straight.

My generation knows. It those who graduated in the three decades after me (yikes, did I just say decades) that probably don't.

Had a chance to speak w/ Anton Goff who is here in Atlantis with his wife & kids.

Didn't speak all that long but he seems really excited to getting started in his new role and figuring out what needs to improve.

Seemed quite receptive to honest feedback and suggestions from the alumni and students.

So what did you suggest? ;) :)

Didn't directly suggest much but did mention a great need to build a loyal fan base and needs to figure out how to do that with current students as well as potential future fans so that the small group in Atlantis doesn't go the way of the dinosaur in what is still a heavy commuter school.

Lots of other things could have been said but we're not appropriate.

Winning helps (and backs on CA seats)

and maybe seeing how a school like VCU bothered to pay the expense to fly in their mascot and had school war chant / fight song for their alumni in attendance to keep energy high.

Do we even have a school song ? All I heard them play once was the Jay-Z / Alicia Keys Empire State of Mind once during the three games.

Yes we got us a song. Written by a BYU grad while attending the Law school in early 1940s. Don't know if I have ever heard it.
