Brought to my attention by my guy Moose;
University of Wisconsin-Green Bay athletic director Mary Ellen Gillespie is not interested in talking about her interview at St. John’s University. She made that clear during the Phoenix’s media day Monday. According to Adam Zagoria of SportsNet New York, Gillespie and Hartford AD Anton Goff are finalists for the opening at St. John’s, which has been searching for an AD since Chris Monasch resigned in May 2015 after spending a decade on the job.
Gillespie, who interviewed at the school last month, is from that region and has family there. She signed a five-year extension with UWGB in March after being hired in October 2013 to replace Ken Bothof. “Look, I’m the athletic director at Wisconsin-Green Bay,” Gillespie said. “I love my job and I love who I work with. It is inappropriate for me to comment on another institution’s search.” Gillespie was asked how her visit to St. John’s was rather than how the interview went, but again she had little interest in talking about it. “It’s inappropriate for me to comment on someone else’s search,” she said. “I’m very happy at Green Bay.” Those in the UWGB athletic office insist they have not been told by Gillespie about her plans. -Scott Venci, USA TODAY NETW
