Island Garden in West Hempstead.  Small arena with limited parking.  Perfect.
Was thinking of that wasn't sure if still there. Nets used to play there when they had Sonny Dove.

Not the same place. There's a shopping center on that site.
For those old enough to remember the island Garden(>70) it was torn down and a shopping center built.
Ishtar
The new island Garden was converted from an old warehouse by investors including Jim fox, a former cop. The long island lightning aau program call it home. Unsure if the ny lightning program where Posh and Wusu played is the same outfit.

Its located on a property contiguous to the old island garden
Maybe we should see if Sunnyside Garden Arena is available. Unless Jay Strongbow is still chasing the belt, we might be able to get a few games there

Jims son was on McKillop's Davidson staff for a long time and left a few years ago to become coach at Appalachian State. That didn't work out - not sure if he has landed anywhere since.

I was completely unaware. Jim never spoke about it and didn't live vicariously thru his kid's athletic success.

One of the partners was skimming cash bnb off the top and jim tossed him out. Good man imo.

Thanks for the insights.

Sunnyside Gardens has been a Wendy’s for about 20 years but the tennis arena is an interesting topic. CA is just too inconvenient to get to unless you drive. You see very few high school agers going to a game at CA.
Interest in SJU basketball is extremely low and sinking and very few non posters even consider going to games unless it is a major team at MSG. Years ago MSG sold GO tickets for next to nothing for college bb games and crowds were usually around fourteen thousand. MSG has always been easy to get to for a token in Queens and young people made up a decent amount of the crowd.
If an arena in Queens could be secured and high shool and college agers can be enticed maybe attendance could actually increase. Making March Madness and signing top recruits is another topic. Last weeks Prov game had fans lining up on Utopia Parkway at eleven thirty to take a bus to wait for the train to take them home.
SJU is in dire need of a younger fan base and an arena near a subway might help.

The crowds at CA have been pretty good of late including younger people with friends or younger kids with parents.

Finally our student crowds have been more representative if the diversity at sju and that's awesome.

If 15,000 undergrad students can make their way to the jamaica campus, if we put a very good team on the floor we will fill the place soon

Here's a thought, but how important is it to even have an arena on campus? I especially mention this because of how the school has a reputation as a commuter school, most fans end up driving to the game anyway, and it's unclear how many students even live on campus (and make the effort to walk over to the arena for a game). Just something to take into consideration.

How important? I'd say very important.

Did the rest of your post get cut off? Are you not going to offer any explanation for your position?
