(EXHIBITION) Towson, Sat., Oct. 18, 2p, ESPN+

It’s the first exhibition game with so many new players in a new system with new roles etc. we all know how Pitino teams grow. What we saw today as a team and from individual players will not be what we see two months from now. This game was just practice, nothing more , nothing less. If Mike Anderson was still our coach I’d be worried. We have the best coach in the sport.
Now I truly believe we are winning a National Championship this year 😀

Let’s be honest- no one “impressed” today…

With the expectations I have for the guys- I thought Dillon was gonna dunk from the FT line… Sellers was gonna hit 10 3s… Ian was gonna cement himself as THE premier player…

That did not happen. Only guy who looked the part was Ayo… Will say I love the way Sanon moves out there- looks the part

We’ll be fine… that why we play these games… maybe we can get in another “secret” scrimmage

My concerns about primary ball handler predate the summer. I was always skeptical of Ian as the PG and equally skeptical of Darling. Sellers reeks of a desperate pivot.

I didn’t watch yesterday and, because of what you said, I don’t have urgency to watch it. We will be a really good team, but I hope this isn’t a Trent Dilfer leading the Ravens to the SB situation.

Don't want to be unnecessarily negative but if we don't figure out PG that's going to put a huge dent in our potential. It would not surprise me if what Pitino said earlier about trying to play "positionless basketball" (which I think would really translate to Mitchell as point forward) is where we land - and that's going to be a tough way to make good things happen.

But it's early and just scrimmages, so let's see how it develops

Yeah. It’s the only thing where I don’t think benefit of the doubt applies on this team. Pitino will make it work, especially against the non-top 3 of the BE.

But when the game slows down in the last four minutes in March, do we really have a guy we trust to find us a good shot?

I don’t care about the exhibition, but I wish the reports were “wow, look at Darling.”

It was a typically sloppy first exhibition game. I am not in the overreaction camp.

I think Dylan Darling will be significantly better than the sensationally lousy player some have described. His size comes with a low ceiling, but I think his floor is much higher than yesterday's performance would suggest. Ultimately, he will contribute and we will appreciate him.

I must say, it won't be easy to bury Ayo on the bench this year. While he's never been highly ranked, he has turned himself into a legit Big East caliber player.

I am also still confident Jackson and Sanon will be a lethal tandem.

Every contending team has its question marks at this point, some more than others. Great HCs find away to adjust to the obvious and Pitino is a master at that. I was doubtful he could make a rather flaky, “me first” Russ Smith handle a leadership role at the point at L’Ville and was proven wrong.

Not blind confidence, but I bet Pitino will make this roster work as a hole as LMF noted, to compensate for the absence of a stud PG.

The other is that Jackson gives me Andre Curbelo vibes. Not the full Curbelo experience. But, vibes.
Don’t see Ian pulling out the popcorn anytime soon. Or any other shenanigans that Curbelo presented.

Ian is a gifted offensive player that is having difficulty adjusting to the demands of Pitino’s defensive structure. He will be more effective when we play teams like Michigan and Alabama. In my opinion we are blessed to have a player of his caliber.

What I find truly amazing is that the same poster who was a hard core supporter of Sim Wilcher, gave him an entire season to find his shot, which he never did, and still took issue with those who criticized Mr. Wilcher, is ready to throw Mr. Dating under a bus after one exhibition game?

And what a game it was. I challenge anyone to tell us other than perhaps Ayo), who was on top of their game? Certainly not Jackson, a former 5 star recruit and consensus top 10 HS player in his class. Nor Zuby, considered by many to be one of the nations top post players.

In fact the play as a team looked disjointed and as individuals, far less then their respective talent levels. But we have seen this in the past, Rick’s teams never seem to get off to a great start as his system is demanding and his players take a while to adapt to his vision of their roles. Darling, Jackson, Sellers etc. all seemed to be uncomfortable, hesitant and overly cautious during the game.

I’m hoping that these kids are able to exhibit their true talents in the Michigan game but won’t be surprised if it’s a rough day for them.

Unlike Hubert & UNC, Pitino runs a very detailed scheme at both ends of the court and suspect Ian, who historically freelanced a lot, is learning the nuances of consistent play and discipline. He’ll do fine with a few bumps along the way.

No question on the shot and he’ll get his points. Liked what I saw on D. I’m not as sold on his ability to drive in get easy looks.

Watching his summer runs and clips, he was consistently getting to the rim under control. He’s not downhill all game like Kadary, but I think that will be a strength for him.

What’s clear is the guards need to get after it way more on defense. They need to be disruptive and create chaos. We won’t beat many good teams if it’s solely an half court battle.

I think there are some of us who are just thrilled to be good again, winning the BE, lock for a tournament, etc. and we haven’t caught up with those in group two who have spent so much of their money supporting this team for decades and want so badly to be a legit contender. In a final four with a shot at it all.

Comments just reflect that. I totally get the point guard concerns from those fans who have moved into group two.

It’s hard to believe w all the money spent on this roster, we didn’t get a high caliber pg.
