(EXHIBITION) Towson, Sat., Oct. 18, 2p, ESPN+

I'm happy Rick concluded the press conference by saying Darling is a much better basketball player than what he showed.
He ended it saying it saying thank god I didn’t give POA to draft my redfan fantasy football team to DK :)

My overreaction after the first exhibition game: Hopkins, mitchell, and Zuby are easily the best players on the team will have to play together a bunch if we want our best 5 out there. Mitchell is a willing passer and has good vision. Hopkins looks healthy and ready to be first team big east. Zuby was trying to do too much but he’ll be fine. Prey looked decent too.

The guards were ok to underwhelming but only darling looked like he was overmatched. Hopefully they get the guard situation sorted out, but this team can definitely play big.

An overreaction would be saying I need to buy mjmaherjr 3 beers at msg when 2 would suffice

Playing psychologist here but seems to me that Darling is being especially cognizant of accepting his new role and just trying to set the table for his teammates. It's obviously a big difference from his role last year where he was asked to do everything. Make take him a bit to find the right balance as he may have been a little too passive today.
Absolutely..passed up multiple scoring oppoirtunities

The positives to me are that the defense is ahead of where I thought it'd be at this point. Maybe I was just personally underrating Hopkins defense coming into this season but he was very good on that end today and that's huge for us. Sanon, Sellers, and Jackson seemed to be learning how to use their athleticism on that end as well. We'll see how it looks vs Michigan before fully buying in.

Offense was obviously pretty meh but the ceiling for that to corrected is much higher and Zuby might not play that bad again all season. The PG concerns weren't eased at all today though
That is the biggest takeaway…on ball defense was very good…no one was getting taken off dribble

To draw all the conclusions you all are saying after this first game together against real competition is not prudent.

We all know things will look differently. That said we play like this against Michigan we could be in trouble.

We looked terrible. We looked ok at times. We have things that really need to be worked on especially in bounding when game is on the line.

Darling to me didn’t act like a point guard today and offensively aside from one nice pass he didn’t run the show while he was in there as I hoped he would. But I also thought he played aggressively on defense. I hope he pans out well for us but not making any proclamations either way after 1 game here.

Good learning game. Defense was solid. Agree we have an outstanding group of forwards. Hopkins stood out but Mitchell was excellent at times as well. Ayo will play this season. Guards will come around. Michigan game will be a better measuring stick.

Eric2 give Eric his account back now !

Any insight as to why Ian only played 17 minutes? Anything on the court or attitude wise that would have limited his minutes? Or was Rick just trying to get Darling some "sea legs?"

Ok We've got DK Lawman Mug and who else in the anti Darling group ?

Let me reword. Darling not good enough
I’m not there yet after one exhibition game where he seemed to make sure he wasn’t going to try to do too much.

I think there’s a chance he’s a guy that can give us 15ish decent mins most nights. Do I think he’s a 25-30 mpg PG on a final 4 team? No. I also think there will be some matchups where he’s completely unplayable. Alabama might be one of them.

Two player comps jumped out at me today. One was that Mitchell reminds me of Justin Simon.

The other is that Jackson gives me Andre Curbelo vibes. Not the full Curbelo experience. But, vibes.

He didn't contribute much today, but neither did any of the guards. There's a case to be made that Liotopoulos was the best of the bunch unless you want to give it to Sellers. And except for a stretch of Sellers and two stretches of Darling there wasn't a lot of minutes or rotation consistency, which is fine considering it was a scrimmage and Pitino was probably just looking at things.

He clearly wanted to take a look at the 3 guard unit today and hopefully he will conclude that playing Hopkins Zuby and Sellers is the way to go unless some of them are vastly better next week.

If Zuby just showed up this year and everyone judged him by today’s game there would be big concern about him. But he didn’t so we aren’t. I know it’s no fun to wait and see but I’m not ready to make any judgements, good or bad, at this early date.

Overmatched against Towson? He played 12 mpg as a freshman in the PAC-12 (before it blew up) and was the conference player of the year for a similar conference last year.

I don’t think any of his perceived struggles were due to the competition at this point.

You are spot on with the Mitchell-Simon comp. Mitchell a little bigger and Simon a little more skilled.

I think everyone is poo-poo’ing Jackson too much. The kid was exclusively a SF last year. He and Sanon are going to need time to become better team players. Jackson can get to the hole well and he can shoot it really well. He’ll be fine, but it won’t be immediate.

No question on the shot and he’ll get his points. Liked what I saw on D. I’m not as sold on his ability to drive in get easy looks.

It’s the first exhibition game with so many new players in a new system with new roles etc. we all know how Pitino teams grow. What we saw today as a team and from individual players will not be what we see two months from now. This game was just practice, nothing more , nothing less. If Mike Anderson was still our coach I’d be worried. We have the best coach in the sport.

My sentiments exactly. If this were Norm or Mullin or Anderson I'd be worried. There were things we saw today that will be fixed by Saturday.
