Europe Trip Details

I guess Dinkins is playing golf so here is the latest:

Sheed drives and is fouled, makes one. A FT from Manresa and its 24-17. #SJUBB trails with 53.3 to go in the first.

BEAUTIFUL EXECUTION. Branch to Jordan to Karr for the dunk. A Manresa bucket and FT makes it 27-19, end of 1Q. #SJUBB

JaKarr has six, Dee has five as the 2Q begins. A 29-19 lead for Manresa.with 8:30 to play in the half. #SJUBB

Make that 30-26 and Karr connects on a 12-foot baseline J. #SJUBB

LOL Good one, Paul!

I just got in a few minutes ago. I was out watching a little league football game. Thanks for picking up my slack. ;)

THANKS TO: ‏@StJohnsBBall for the Twitter play by play:
Branch and Jordan each get buckets in the final 1:15 but that's the game. Manresa 96, #SJUBB 84. Johnnies 3-2 in Europe. Leaders coming up!

Thank you Paul for subbing for Dink!
I hope our guys enjoyed their tour and I am sure some will see these European players again in their professional career.
A 12 point loss to a Spanish first division team is respectable, even if they did finish last in their league. They had maturity and size, both of which we lack. Chris O and Gift obviously no match on the inside (not sure if Gift even played) though our guard players seemed to hold their own.
We will get better by November after Sanchez and Sheed are better acclimated. I think Max will be a real contributor and may have written Marco's future in his stats.

Beast, factual answer, his 39.6% ranked him 25th out of all guards in the BE. However judging from the test I guess that was high enough of a fear factor for defenses to pick him up at 30 feet and ignore the rest of the team, unless maybe you were watching games I missed.
That's because we were offensively challenged last year. This year we have many more weapons.

25th of Big East guards is not very pretty.

No its not. But it's not awful either. Like Richard said, this year there are a few more options. It should go up, kind of like it did today.

He has all the tools, and its nice to see an efficient offensive performance. on that we can agree, and we are both pulling for him.

* Manresa: 11-of-21 from 3, and 21 assists on 32 FGs
* Sir'Dom: nine points, four boards.
* Branch eight points, five assists.
*jordan: 10 points in 21 minutes, 2/3 FGs 6/10 FTs. six assists.
* Karr: 21pts, 10/18 FG, nine rebounds.
* Harrison: 21 pts. 8/13 FG, 4/8 3s.
* SJUBB 46 pct FG, Manresas 55 pct FG. Manresa 40-32 edge on the boards.

beast: that is 62% FG and 80% 3pt for Harrison.

He will go down as the most scrutinized player in St. John's history.

On basketball prowess, that might be Felipe Lopez, who to many was a disappointment for not living up to all world hype despite becoming an NBA player.

True, but he didn't have internet message boards. LOL

Those shooting percentages make me feel that this was nothing more than an exhibition game.

15 missed "FREE" throws and that is with Obekpa not even attempting any. No excuse for shooting a little over 50% FT as a team. As I've said a few times before, Sampson has a really ugly routine and just a little attention to it would make a difference.

But Sampson didn't attempt a FT either ;)

One rebound between Jones and Obekpa in 25 minutes? Gift with no burn against a big team? Sampson and Harrison show. Hope we get more balance in conference play.

not sure what you mean by that but JS was 1/7 FT

I thought it was the middle column since that was also 50%

Since it wasn't and it was the far right column then to me its much ado about nothing. His 1 for 7 skews everything the wrong way. What did he finish last year? 65% from the line?

Paul, thanks for the updates.

Sorry guys I've been out of the loop most of the summer, but when do we expect Phil Greene back? Just a little concerned he'll put a damper on some of this great guard play we've been getting. Not that I don't like him, but just nightmares of last year when he was forced to play point.

If we averaged 34 attempts per game the difference between an embarrassing 56%, (a crappy 65%) and a respectable 78% would be: +7 ppg
That can make a huge difference on a game and a season. For this team that would be over 10% of the scoring - just on that margin. Aside from that missing free throws is a momentum killer. Another reason why I like the ball in the hands of DH. He makes his free throws. A division I player averaging under 70% from the line is ridiculous. A team averaging under 70% is moronic.
