EPL 2016-17

Exciting game # 1: Man C 1-3 Chelsea. Man C were leading 1-0 through a fortuitous OG by Cahill when de Bruyne missed a sitter. Costa made them pay a few minutes later with a terrific goal. Willian and Hazard scored to make it 3-1 and there were handbags at the end with both Aquero and Fernandinho seeing red (and hopefully suspended for the Arsenal game in a few weeks>.

Exciting game # 2: Bournemouth 4-3 Liverpool. The Reds were leading 3-1 with 15 minutes to go but The Cherries came storming back with 3 goals to inflict Liverpool's second loss this season.

Arsenal and Spurs won 5-1 and 5-0 respectively; Alexis Sanchez with a hatrick for the Gunners vs West Ham.

At the top it is Chelsea with 34 pts, Arsenal with 31, L'Pool and Man C both on 30.

At the other end, Swansea are not looking good and Leicester might go from being Champions to the Championship in less than 12 mos...

As a West Ham supporter, I'm dying a little every week, but still think we'll pull out of this and reach to mid-table by January.

Good battles at the top and bottom this season.

The Hammers got a good point today. I think Bilic is a good manager and once they get through the injury crisis they will look like a different team. The new stadium has been a distraction though...

Chelsea and Arsenal won, Man C and Spurs lost. We have a full slate of midweek games this week.

Chelsea 37 pts
Arsenal 34
L'Pool 31
Man C 30
Spurs 27
Man U 24

Charlie Adam is a dirty thug...

All of the big boys won midweek except the Arsenal :( :(

Chelsea 40
Liverpool 34
Arsenal 34
Man City 33
Spurs 30
Man Utd 27

Chelsea looking good right now.

Ditto.

Arsenal seems to find a way to disappoint every season (albeit not at the level of my Hammers).

The top six all look very solid this year. I think Chelsea returns to the pack at some point. Should be a great race all season.

Five of the top six won, except Spurs who play tomorrow.

Chelsea 46
Liverpool 40
Man City 39
Arsenal 37
Spurs 33 (game in hand)
Man Utd 33

Even though it was offside, the goal by Mkhitaryan for Man U was fantastic. A flying backheel volley, usually only done by Kanu or Ibrahimovic (who supplied the cross).

Bob Bradley's run at the helm of Swansea was very short - only 11 games. That is ridiculous. Either give him a chance or do not hire him. The owners are basically saying they made a mistake.

Olivier Giroud must have been studying Mkhitaryan. I doubt there will be a better goal scored in the EPL this season.

Perez wins it back, Bellerin to Xhaka, Giroud flick to Iwobi, pass to Sanchez. Giroud is steaming down the middle and Sanchez's cross is bit behind the Frenchman, but Giroud adjusts magnificently and while falling forward hooks the ball over his head with his left boot and into the top corner off the crossbar. C'est magnifique. A wonder goal. It will be talked about for the rest of his life.

As for the game, Arsenal won, as did the others bar Man C who lost 1-0 to 'Pool.

Chelsea 49
Liverpool 43
Arsenal 40
Spurs 39
Man City 39
Man Utd 36

Today Spurs handed Chelsea only their third loss this season (2-0, Alli with both). With 20 games played and 18 to go, here are the top 6:

Chelsea 49
Liverpool 44
Spurs 42
Man City 42
Arsenal 41
Man Utd 39

Chelsea had won 13 straight. Arsenal managed to be losing 3-0 at Bournemouth through a combination of sloppy defending, a silly penalty and poor goal-keeping but started a comeback in the 70th minute and managed to grab a 3-3 draw. It felt like a moral victory, but it wasn't...

Anyway, thanks to Spurs , the title race might have a few more twists left in it.

Chelsea 52 The champions-elect had an easy 3-0 win at the reigning champs. Costa to China?
Spurs 45 Trounced WBA 4-0, Kane hat-trick
Liverpool 45 Drew 1-1 at Man U. Mistake by Pogba
Arsenal 44 Won 4-0 at Swansea, scoreline a bit flattering, two OG's. Alexis to China?
Man City 42 Battered at Everton, 4-0
Man Utd 40 Drew 1-1 at home to Liverpool. Zlatan is ageless.

Another missed offside call to let ManU tie it up against Liverpool. Does it ever change?

How about that goal by Andy Carroll on Saturday??

It was a sweet strike by And Carroll.

After 22 games:

Chelsea 55, routine 2-0 win over Hill. Costa is back.
Arsenal 47, a not-so-routine win over Burnley. Lots of controversy. Xhaka needs to curb his enthusiasm.
Spurs 46, fought back to draw 2-2, after being down 2-0
Liverpool 45, shocked at home by the Swans. Bob Bradley who?
Man City 43. See Spurs. The blues are not in good form.
Man Utd. 42. Drew 1-1 at Stoke, great goal / free by Rooney who is now their all-time leading scorer.

FA Cup 4th round next weekend.

Chelsea 56, a 1-1 draw with L'pool at Anfield
Spurs 47, a 0-0 draw at Sunderland
Arsenal 47, beaten 2-1 at home by lowly Watford, a diabolical result
L'pool 46
Man C 46, trounced WHam 4-0
Man U 42, 0-0 at home to Hull

Unless they implode, it sure looks like Chelsea will win it. 15 games to go though...

No doubt. Chelsea should be able to see this through, the top 4 race however should be way more interesting.

Chelsea 59, manhandled and abused Arsenal
Spurs 50, 1-0 over 'Boro
Man C 49, Jesus to the rescue
Arsenal 47, lightweights
L'Pool 46, embarrassed by Hull 2-0
Man U 45, won 3-0 at Leicester, who might be relegated

Chelsea 60, held 1-1 with Burnley
Man C 52, 2-0 over Bournemouth
Spurs 50, lost 2-0 at L'Pool
Arsenal 50, struggled at home to Hull but won 2-0
L'Pool 49, 2-0 over Spurs
Man U 48, won 2-0 over Watford

A small chance that Chelsea might be caught by the pack. 13 games left. Champions League resumes this week for Arsenal, Man C and Leicester.

We both know the gunners are going down on Wednesday. :)

I cannot argue. Arsenal are in a funk. Ozil has lost confidence, Sanchez wants to leave... I am hopeful they can keep it close but not optimistic...
