Would this be considered the current depth chart?

1. Dunn / Rutherford / McGriff
2. Heron / Williams
3. LJ / Wright
4. Caraher / Earlington / Champagnie
5. Steere / Sears / Roberts

We already have our third scorer in Ian Steere. But i have no problem with a fourth or fifth scorer. Like his confidence though. I said we needed a big man OR another scorer. I’ll take Dunn if he is immediately eligible & can score like he claims.

Steere prognosis as third scorer is based on what?

I would imagine it's very likely Dunn gets his waiver. He's already sat out and it was coaching change that was very late, plus I think the biggest thing that will help him is he moved home, NCAA seems to always favor waivers for kids that move home, you can always say you're helping look after a relative or something like that's usually enough for the NCAA.
We are St John’s.
We never imagine anything positive is likely
Haha. Didn't Heron just get an immediate waiver?

NCAA is handing those things out these days, they know how messed up their system is with coaches getting fired and taking new jobs and leaving the kids high and dry.

I'm sure the staff feels confident he'll get it as well, otherwise I'm skeptical if they would have used the last scholarship on him.

My question is can Dunn play the 1? If so, I would think he'd move ahead of Rutherford for the starting spot.
Dunn is an off guard & question is how well can he pinch hit in that role imo?

Dunn can contribute, but it would be a surprise if he became our third scorer. Personally, I look for Wright or Williams (whoever shoots the ball better) to be that guy. They are both athletic and can take the ball to the rim. The one who has the better stroke will be positioned to put up points..

Agree on Williams. Regarding Wright, hopefully he is buying into the new regime’s discipline, hard work and dedication to defense. At MSU Howland had a similar philosophy and Eli got a lot of pine time. Hopefully that was just him learning and playing behind better players. He has a nice opportunity under Anderson and hopefully he is taking advantage of it, because he apparently has talent.

Perhaps you will get your wish. Crazier things have happened around here.

Agree. Hopefully Eli will see this as an opportunity for a fresh start and go all in for MA's system. Don't have the feeling that he'll be guaranteed a role w/o earning it and Eli doesn't have many good options besides earning the PT with SJU, having already transferred and sat out once. He can be a key contributor, rooting for him to break through this year.

Didn't fit in story, but found this very interesting from my talk with Rasheem Dunn last night. He talked about vision AD Mike Cragg has for program and how he feels St. John's can help him for life after basketball with networking opportunities. Very sharp kid. #sjubb

He is 6’9 250 and has a nice touch. I have seen him in person and he is a big dude & I’ve seen him on the court. IMO, the kid can play and after Herron/Figueroa he will be our best option in the paint.

Who do you think will be our third option this year Mr. Paultzman?

Someone with better memory than me might have more firm details but Heron getting the waiver was probably the first time something positive happened for SJU with regards to the NCAA in about 2 decades.

Where did you see him play “Mr Red”?

In a guard’s game, I go with Dunn, who I have seen in high school and college.

I also saw him play in high school but only once while SFC. He is a very good athlete and a major upgrade from Trimble and will be a valuable addition in the backcourt. We have all seen Ian's high school clips and he is a Beast compared to anyone we have had during the Mullin experiment. Josh Roberts had a very difficult time with him in practices last year which may have contributed to Josh getting more floor time during games. I fully expect Ian to be a go to player inside which is a place the last staff never ever sent the ball. As a prototypical power forward I wouldn't be surprised to see both him and Josh on the floor at times against bigger teams that play an inside game. I also expect Mustapha to transition more to a 2 guard. Rasheem is a good ball handler who can bring the ball up but he is not a great ball distributor. He has, like Shamorie, an incredible nose for the ball and loves to drive off the dribble. That said, the most complete player on the team may be Figueroa.

Based on Steere's production at NC St., if he plays 30 mpg, he'll average 24 ppg, 24 rpg, and 6 apg.

I think Steere can be a beast for us. Not a pure scoring type, but his athleticism at his size should have him grabbing boards and dunks down low. Hopefully he has decent hands and the IQ to get it done. Dunn sounds like a good add for us because he can certainly score and rebound. Simon added a lot for us despite not being able to shoot, and I think Dunn might give us the same sort of toughness at both ends and ability to get to the hoop albeit in a smaller package.

Not really concerned about his package.

What about Eli Wright? Or is he on the way out the door as it's been hinted at?

FWIW, there has been a fair amount of noise about Wright not buying in to hard work.
