Dunn Visit

Couple thoughts on this. Seen a few people mention Mikey Dixon as a warning to Dunn’s ability to contribute. I’m still of belief that Dixon could have helped if put in better position (a lot of that on him too). Look at how the season went starting when he left, guard depth is huge. Plus Dixon’s struggles with bigger, stronger players shouldn’t be as much of an issue for Dunn.

Also, all though St. Francis is nothing compared to the big east the fact he scored 13 a game as a freshman tells you something. Gregg Williams, who I am very excited about as a player, doesn’t have the type of game to score 13 a game as a freshmen. So Dunn is going to offer some different looks and added depth to our back court.

We have two studs who will play as many minutes as they can handle, having as many other potential pieces next to them is a good thing. With Rutherford, Mggriff, Williams, and Dunn all sort of locked in for only minutes at the 1-2, they will have to battle like crazy for time. Now let’s just hope he gets the waiver.

Dunn looks physically mature so this is a plus compared to McGriff who looks really young. He's a little taller than Dixon and he will play defense so while we'll still have two small guards who will be shot over, both of these guys are known tenacious defenders which Dixon never was. So we will struggle with this with both of them but they will make it a little harder than Dixon did who often looked like almost invisible against the jump shooters (and in some cases they didn't even need to jump). The biggest knock is his shooting percentage and he's a volume shooter so either that needs to improve significantly or they need to reign it in.

Dixon and Lovett seem like good contrasts for these two. Even McGriff's handle is similar to Lovett. They both may prove tougher defensively. But Lovett was more seasoned by the time he started playing for us. He got better defensively but like Dixon he got shot over just not as blatantly. We'll see how this all works out with CMA defense. It was pretty easy for an opposing team to isolate a defender to shoot over with Mullin's switching defense. We have some more size but I don't see how much that can change if we are playing really small guards.

Btw, I hear taff is still recruiting for 19. Obviously another issue at play.

Two issues.

Assuming Rutherford is completing course for grad transfer eligibility, Monmouth summer session ends 8/12 w grades 8/16.

Geez, so Eli is a concern and so are rutherford’s Grades if I’m gathering correctly. Looks like Dunn was more necessary than originally thought. Not sure who can come on board as a grad transfer and help us in August at this point? Truth be told, I’m more concerned about the 2020 class and beyond which is where the true rebuild is going to take place.

Pretty safe to say anyone coming on at this stage will have their own warts also.

Rutherford has been to SJU campus a lot this last month, so I am not worried about him completing class work to be clear.

Don’t know anything about that.

Well then hopefully where there is no smoke there is no fire.

Eli posted an IG story the other day hanging out with some guys on the team so he seems to be on campus.

We already have our third scorer in Ian Steere. But i have no problem with a fourth or fifth scorer. Like his confidence though. I said we needed a big man OR another scorer. I’ll take Dunn if he is immediately eligible & can score like he claims.
Steere prognosis as third scorer is based on what?
He is 6’9 250 and has a nice touch. I have seen him in person and he is a big dude & I’ve seen him on the court. IMO, the kid can play and after Herron/Figueroa he will be our best option in the paint.

Who do you think will be our third option this year Mr. Paultzman?
Where did you see him play “Mr Red”?

In a guard’s game, I go with Dunn, who I have seen in high school and college.
In Taffner my friend. Some practices and pick up games.

Either way is fine with me. I have never seen Dunn play up close and I hope your right. Because I expect good things from Mr. Steere if they get him the ball where he needs it - In the paint. Also think Roberts and Ellington will be much better this year which will free up Steere for dunks and put backs also IMHO. Once again, either way we win.
