Dunlap to Charlotte

As a St johns alum...I am biased as i see this helping the Johnnies in recruiting as we had some good tutelage here from Dunlap.

Congrats to him...Do I think it will work out. Probably not

C'MON MAN!!!... SMH. This is not a good look. Hopefully this does'nt effect our recruiting. You better believe that Dunlap was a very important part of our recruiting success over the past two years because of his college and pro experience. I know Dunlap has been taking a few nibbles at other coaching options since he got to St. John's. Hopefully Lavin has been planning for this and we have another "attractive" coach with pro experience and amateur "connections" lined up to fill the void now left by Dunlap..... #somewhat concerned.

Hugh loss! He explained his coaching system of assigning points to each player to the press in Tampa and left them in awe.The "Professor" is going to get results in Charlotte.

Not with that current roster, he's not. NBA is about the players, much more so then the college game. He'll help, but don't look for immediate dividends. Plus, with Jordan running the show, I wonder if the Bobcats can ever be good.

I am 100% confidant in Lavin's ability to bring in someone of similar/equal ability to fill the void. I confess to not having a clue who that might be, but he will find someone. Mark my words.

I couldn't have stated it better, 61982. I wanted Dunlap in the fold like most of our fans. But, I also believe losing Dunlap isn't as huge as oldfan makes it.

I stated earlier in this thread that Lavin is probably gonna bring in someone similiar to Dunlap. I truly believe that to be the case.

The whole "good for recruiting" thing will vanish pretty quickly when he is inevitably canned after the bobcats start the season 2-25. They just dont have an NBA roster.

This is great for St Johns. The Bobcats will take Mo Harkless with their lottery pick and now Lav can sell recruits on being selected by the Bobcats each year in the lottery till Dunlap gets them set straight

Gene Keady was an assistant with the Raptors for one year (and was known to win a college game or two as a head coach), and Hines was an assistant with the Warriors for about 4 years, or so. It's still an attractive staff, and I'm confidant that Dunlap's replacement will only had to that.

I honestly think Dunlap is probably dancing tonight. He got a pro head coaching gig.

I think he will do what he does best, but the pressure may get to him. I still think it will depend if the players respond to him or not.

I expect 14 wins next year for them

Do you really believe this is gonna affect our recruiting? Of course, Dunlap's expertise wasn't going unnoticed when Lavin was recruiting. But, Lavin can certainly hold his own when it comes to recruiting. There aren't too many coaches who can recruit like Lavin. Lavin's track record of sending players to the NBA under his watch also goes a long way in recruiting.

Lavin also has Rico Hines at his disposal while recruiting, as well. He has NBA coaching ties. Did you also forget about a guy named Gene Keady?

I like Dunlap, as he is a solid X's and O's guy, and he and Lavin complimented one another well. I truly do not believe this will have any affect on our recruiting.

That's great news. Congrats Mike Dunlap!

To all future recruits: Lavin is putting everyone in the NBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats Coach Dunlap! Thank you for help restoring the pride back at St. Johns. Your contributions were tremendous. Good luck!! except against the Knicks lol

Big picture.

Lavin sent an assistant coach to an NBA head coaching position. You can't look at another college program that can boast that right now. None.

He has all the leverage right now to bring in a really good assistant head coach who would be salivating. If Lavin brings in a local coach (which I think he'll do), we just doubled-up the recruiting efforts.

Young recruits only want to know how likely it is that they'll get into the NBA. They're not looking at W/L records.

If people thought Lavin was a salesman before, well he just got another supply of bullets in his chamber.

It's on.

It's a loss but also a win Deacon. Lavin breeds success.

Let's be honest. Most of us had never even heard of Dunlap before he was mentioned for the job here a couple of years ago.

Lavin is a master talent evaluator. Whether it be players or potential coaches

I'm MUCH happier with him getting an NBA job over some cr@ppy college school. It sucks for us today but it's great pr for our program tomorrow

Speaking of which:

Mike Dunlap #stjbb is 3rd trending worldwide. Got to say this is a huge PR opportunity for St. John's.

 Moe Hicks gets promoted

From DOBO to Associate HC? I think Hicks will stay where he is. Lavin will not just move all his assistants up. He'll want another X's and O's guru as his Associate HC methinks.

I was think slide everyone up a chair.

Nooooooooooo!!! It sucks as a huge St. John's fan but I'm happy for Coach Dunlap....Good luck with the Bobcats, Coach!

i hurts more that he's gone than it helps. he's a big time coach who would have been picked up somewhere. i'm sure he's grateful he didn't get one of those "colorado tech" head coaching jobs.

congratulations!!

Not surprised that he's gone. I never expected him to be here long in the first place. First our assistant become a head NBA coach and Moe probably gets drafted in the first 20 spots in the draft. If anyone thinks these two things hurt recruiting, I can't see how that's true because it just puts St. John's in the news.

I'm happy for Dunlap, but it'll be interesting to see Bobcats management sell this to their already depressed fanbase. On the surface, Dunlap coached a college team to a sub .500 record last year and all of a sudden he's a NBA coach. Of course....we all know he did a pretty stellar job with only a 6 man (mostly freshmen roster), but how is someone who lives in Charlotte or Wilmington going to know that?

My two cents - Rico slides up to fill Dunlap's role. Everyone else slides up in the assistant framework, and we hire a new DOBO who has connections. Or, Hicks stays in that role, and we bring in an X's and O's guy (or recruiter, with Rico filling the X's and O's). Don't think Keady's position changes, but I'm not nearly as close to the situation as others.

Lets hope Obeka wasn't coming to SJU with the hopes of being coached by Dunlap. He fits perfectly under Dunlaps system. Who know who the new assistant will be and if Lavin will stick with the Dunlap philosophy or allow the new guy to preach his........
