Dunlap Tires of Raising Cain Chicken

You do know there are freshman who come in and play competitively. Happens all the time. Wilcher was jittery but I have no problem assuming he can take a big leap.

Again what has given anyone the impression that Dunlap is or will ever be a competent shooter? Certainly won’t be any more open than he was.
I'd say Brady's back-to-back-to-back performances against Butler, Villanova and Providence were hugely important in showing us what type of shooter he can be and the impact he can have in a game. That absolutely gave the fanbase an impression of him as a competent shooter.

I know you'll now dismiss that and say what about the games before and after. But he was a freshman. Teams put him in their game plan and he was not able to adjust well/play up to the pressure. You hope part of the soph leap is doing that.

Of course need to prove it at every new level, but he was a shooter in high school. Think he shot over 40 percent on threes.
I hit over 400 in HS my junior year
I just don’t see how people can say a kid that shot 35% from the free throw line is an answer to provide shooting.

I like the direction the roster is supposedly taking, but def think need a legitimate guy that can knock down threes to be added.

Even with the hoped for recruits, this team lacks outside shooting. Unless Dingle returns, there are no proven consistent outside shooters. You can argue Wilcher will be one all you want but he has yet to prove he can be. Even if Wicher does shoot well from 3 who else is there?

If you are going to compete with the likes of UConn or other top BE teams you better go at them with some shooters or come tourney time, don’t expect much.

If we put these guys on the court, we'll be more than fine and make up for any inconsistent long range shooting w defense..

I think one of Sim’s hurdle last year was his hesitance at times, something many first year guys experience. He has good skills and just needs to feel ok about being more aggressive imo.

Btw, I don’t think being aggressive is something Glover will have to develop year one, judging from clips and opinions of local hoops guys.
Sim was in a tough position backing up DJ. Agree he was hesitant and I believe he has the talent to make the leap to be one of the better guards in the Big East. Agree on Glover as well.

Don’t understand?
Why do you think he won't be good? Because of a stereotype?

He has great form and he has a great frame. His length will be a huge asset in helping him also get shots off. His defense and strength improved drastically as the season went on even though his minutes went down. He isn't done growing. He was so much younger than everyone else.

Based off what I saw, no don’t think he will ever be a good shooter.
My original point was, if roster goes according to rumor, like it but we seem to be lacking a legit 3 point shooter. People rushed forward using Dunlap based on what?

We obviously differ on great form. And I get the kid was nervous and rushed everything, but shot is flat.

Dunlap is the kind of kid every BE team always had that we did not. A coach's son like him will get better every year. The game will slow down each year and I would expect him to be a huge contributor if he was to stay all 4 years. He hustles his ass off. He is a good passer and cuts to the hoop for lots of back door baskets. He is tall and growing into his body. He will get stronger and playing with better players in practice every day will get him much more game ready. Like others had said with Wilcher, I expect a big leap. Maybe not as big as Wilchers but he will contribute meaningful this year.

Thanks Ghost! I have heard all the stories and was familiar. Just couldn’t speak personally to how unlikely it must have felt.
Carnesecca didn’t give him a chance in his 1st 3 years…yanked him every time he made a mistake. I liked him better than Buchanan.

Really made the most of his senior season. He drove the bus.

Cain was a stud at Stevenson. Got all the way to the Fed at least once, and he averaged 11 assists a game as a senior there. Lou just didn't trust him.
Coach Lou never trusted streaky shooters. For a very small sample size: Sergio Luyk, Marcus Broadnax and John Hemphil. Coach Rick is different. I think Brady will turn out to be a well rounded player and scorer. He misses when he rushes. That flattens out his shot. He’s probably working on his shot right now. Be patient. Not everyone is Chris Mullin.

The one thing Larry is Wright about is that Dunlap's shot is flat. Between that and the RJ Rainbow we have both ends of the extreme.

However we have all seen guys with funky form or lack of arc or weird spin shoot for fine percentage.

I for one don't think Dunlap's lack of arc will impair his shooting percentage, especially given his length. He just needs to game to slow down for him some and to get more consistent usage and both should happen in year 2.

Section 3 is also right that part of the David Cain issue was Louie not using him. In Lou"s defense young Cain was not the most responsible decision maker on the court. With age comes wisdom ... At least for some of us, sometimes.
