Does 10-8 get us

What I always told my kids is this: IF you want to make the team, don't compare yourself to the 11th or 12th man.

If you want to be a starter, don't try to be the fifth best player, try to be in the top 3.

If you want to make the dance, 12-6 is a lock, 11-7 will get strong consideration, 10-8 merely will enter the dialogue, but more than likely won't cut it.

The way I look at it, if you can't win 4 out of your last 7 conference games, you probably shouldn't be disappointed if you don't get a bid.

Well to be honest as far as coach and the team if he here's any of this type of talk he says to them. No comparing at all. Let's work as hard as we can to win the next one and so on. The rest will take care of itself.

That said, we're just discussing things on a message board and can have real world discussions on the various permutations of the rest of the season and how they will affect the Redmen's chance of dancing.

UConn is a very good win and will definitely be on our resume whether you consider it signature or not. They are way better than you guys give them credit for. And the Big East has 7 ranked teams with solid SJ, Nova, UConn squads and a dangerous Providence squad. The Big Ten is more front loaded, but the Big East is hands down the best conference top to bottom. Maybe it's you underrating them, not me overrating.

Name one good Big East team after Louisville and Syracuse.

And assuming we do not beat either of those teams on the road, 18 wins = NIT. 19 wins = NIT, and I would not fall off my chair if 20 wins = NIT also. We would not be the first basically mediocre Big East team with 20 wins to be left on the outside looking in. Winning a few games against some teams that have been in and out of the top 25, all of which are flawed, does not a "signature win" make.

The only sure bet to make the NCAAs is to beat either Louisville or Syracuse and get to 20, or get to 20 without one of those wins and then win a game in the BET.

Factor in that losses by 20+ against Cuse or the Ville will hurt.

Your enthusiasm is commendable, but you are overestimating both the Big East and SJU. Both have things to recommend them, but both also have flaws and are very beatable by anyone on any given day.

I will reiterate my retort to you earlier on this subject. BE is mediocre but a better mediocre than every other BCS conference except Big 10. College basektball is mediocre. The story that's being ignored? Mountain West, #2 RPI conference in the country, 4 top 25 RPI teams. That says more about the BCS conferences than it does the Mountain West by the way. A-10 is #7, ranked over SEC, in conference RPI as well.

RE SJU and NCAA's, they can get to 18 with wins against Prov, USF and first round BET. If that's all they win they will not dance. But they need another win in conf play to get to the questioned 10-8 level and that will be a quality win, depends on who it is if it's enough to dance with just 18 and a first round BET exit. I imagine it would have to be Louisville or Syracuse to get in. If they only get to 18 there's going to be 5 or 6 more losses and their RPI will drop significantly no matter who the three wins are against and that'll hurt. Smart money is that 19 is firmly on the weak side of the bubble, 20 on the strong side.

College basketball is nowhere near as mediocre as NBA basketball.
There are 30 NBA teams. Half of them have winning percentages below .50%. Only 4 teams are winning more than 60% of their games.
But nothing is more mediocre than "America's Passtime" baseball. Only a handful of winning teams while the majority of the teams will win less than 40% of their games.
In my mind, if your average NBA or baseball team has less than a 50% chance of winning any game they play, mediocrity rules, and Americans, as it turns out, will pay hundreds of $ per event to watch such mediocrity.

And the NBA is nowhere near as mediocre as Adam Sandler movies. Who GAF?

First a friendly reminder: the use of any acronyms such as GAF, GFY, POS, SMD, etc. get you are PM warning from the mods. I get them frequently. welcome to my world!
Second, who GAF? I think the guy who wrote:

Mountain West? Pardon my French but on the east coast we do not GAFF!

I agree, if SJ just wins 18 games they do not dance .......as delusional as some of us may be about making the dance with even 19 wins.
But your Mountain West comment almost made me fall off my bar stool!
Assuming you are talking college basketball and not BCS football, the MWC is a 9 team conference with TWO ranked teams and the bottom 5 are composed of the bottom pile of MWC manure named Wyoming, Nevada, Fresno, Air Force and Boise.

Thanks for the warning '72. Wasn't aware. Just meant to imply who GAF about the NBA or Adam Sandler movies. I refuse to watch either. I am as surprised as you about the Mountain West RPI ranking but after watching so much mediocre college hoops this year I understand why a mid major can so quickly reach those heights. I still love watching college hoops but lets not be so stupid as to think the quality of play is anywhere near the level of our youth. I'm sure you agree given your previous comments though I think that you probably have watched a Sandler movie or two. And Funny People and Punch Drunk Love don't count. You don't have to be a moron to find those entertaining. Spanglish on the other hand . . .

You've mistaken parity for mediocrity. Just because there isn't a clear favorite in the NCAA doesn't mean the quality has suffered. Did you see some of the games today?

We need 11 wins to get in. Our main signature win is ND. Yes we beat Cincy but they have slipped as of late and are a border top 25 team. Loses to UNCA and Rutgers hurt us. Def need to win 4 out of last 7 to make it. If we only win 3, IMO we will need to win at least 2 in the BET to dance. Hopefully we get one today at Cuse! Go st johns!

I agree! The quality level is way below the standards of even the 80's let alone the 60's ---my youth. LOL!
I watched the UCLA-Washington game at Pauley the other day and thought about the $130+ million spent on Pauley and what I saw was a half empty Pauley with fans sitting on their hands which reminded me more of our MSG games.
Lorenzo Romar, the Washington head coach and alum, was drafted in the 7th round of the NBA draft (143rd player overall) and he made an NBA team. There were TEN ROUNDS!!
Now there are two rounds and players 31-60 have zero guarantees and little likelihood of making a team.
Quality is down everywhere in sports. But not as down as in the Chinese products sold to Americans at Walmart or the customer service support of American companies who are so unconcerned with our expectation of quality that we have to employ a translator to talk to reps in the Phillipines or India. That of course is because Americans that could have been working as service phone reps were not willing to take those jobs because it would interfere with their season ticket schedule to watch the Bobcats in Charlotte possibly win their 10th game of the season after losing 60 or paying $150 per game to watch the METS underperform with a team that barley speaks English.

NJIT Shoots Up KenPom Rankings

The weekly KenPom movers feature a number of interesting teams. I think these rankings will become more and more valuable as we move down the stretch to see which teams are playing good basketball as we head down the stretch towards postseason tournaments.

NJIT: +35 (243)
Massachusetts: +28 (86)
Murray St.: +28 (104)

Not even close.. No signature wins other than Notre Dame who is not a good top 25 team. Guarantee they lose in first round of tourney.

I didn't know the season ended today. Not to mention, Notre Dame is a top 25 team (per the Coaches' poll). I suspect they'll move up the rankings after last night's win against Louisville.

10-8 would, at least, put the team on the fence. If you think a 10-8 record isn't "even close" to being an NCAA Tournament team, from a top 5 conference, then you're not using your head.

10 clearly bubble need a win in BE tourney, 11 in no doubt .

We would likely finish 10th or 11th in the big east. Wish I was wrong but "not even close" stays.

Season not over but NCAA bid is. NIT bound. Is what it is.

Here are my 2 cents on Harrison- seems like a great kid off the court, took a pic with my son and I sent it to him and he signed it for me. On the court his body language is poor, very good college player-- don't think he is a NBA player-- will make his $$ overseas. That being said he is a warrior and i'm glad he is a Johnnie.

A thug would never take a picture with a little kid and sign it. You must have met a different player.

Most folks here have never met a true thug. The closest they have come is watching Tony Soprano on HBO.
I am not sure who called D'Lo a thug here but he does not fit the profile. He does not play dirty or commit dirty fouls. That is a thug in basketball. If anything, he is soft, both on defense and in his offensive choices.
Forget the Mohwak comments (obviously most here do not know you shave the sides of your head for a Mohawk), he is not playing well....or smart. Anyone who says otherwise is drinking the wrong flavor D'Lo Kool-aid.
BTW, I have known a few real thugs who never shied away from taking pictures with their "fans", especially kids. Your old school thug, however, would never have his picture taken....period!
I knew one of those too and remember an old saying they shared in the "clubhouse"------the only men with tats were either in the Navy or queer. To non-Navy men, those two are not mutually exclusive.

Pittsburgh will just about win out and I believe like Boeheim says they are the best team. a win against them is a must. They will be top 10 by then.
They are very fundamentaly sound with the big man now playing well (Adams).
