Does 10-8 get us

The guy complains to refs. He's never once tried to throw a punch at someone. I agree with 72. DLo is no thug. I guess, depending onthe life you've led, somone may apppear to ba "thug" because of tattoos and a mohawk but you're making baseless assumptions.

You can feel free to not like DLo or his antics (and today's are difficult to defend) but calling him a thug is based n "preconceived notions." Stories about his brother being in prison have probably heightened these notions.

And the NBA is nowhere near as mediocre as Adam Sandler movies. Who GAF?

You've mistaken parity for mediocrity. Just because there isn't a clear favorite in the NCAA doesn't mean the quality has suffered. Did you see some of the games today?
Do not mistake parity for quality. Yes the games are entertaining and the top ranked teams play some good basketball but the talent level in the soph, junior and senior classes has been severly diluted to early departures to pro ball. What, about 40 kids a year go early-that is 120 kids that would be sprinkled around on college teams most of them on the better college teams because most of these kids are the cream of the crop. There are no more Ewing- Mullin battles for even 2 years let alone 3-4 years.

First a friendly reminder: the use of any acronyms such as GAF, GFY, POS, SMD, etc. get you are PM warning from the mods. I get them frequently. welcome to my world!
Second, who GAF? I think the guy who wrote:
"I will reiterate my retort to you earlier on this subject. BE is mediocre but a better mediocre than every other BCS conference except Big 10. College basektball is mediocre. The story that's being ignored? Mountain West"
Mountain West? Pardon my French but on the east coast we do not GAFF!

Thanks for the warning '72. Wasn't aware. Just meant to imply who GAF about the NBA or Adam Sandler movies. I refuse to watch either. I am as surprised as you about the Mountain West RPI ranking but after watching so much mediocre college hoops this year I understand why a mid major can so quickly reach those heights. I still love watching college hoops but lets not be so stupid as to think the quality of play is anywhere near the level of our youth. I'm sure you agree given your previous comments though I think that you probably have watched a Sandler movie or two. And Funny People and Punch Drunk Love don't count. You don't have to be a moron to find those entertaining. Spanglish on the other hand . . .

You've mistaken parity for mediocrity. Just because there isn't a clear favorite in the NCAA doesn't mean the quality has suffered. Did you see some of the games today?

We would likely finish 10th or 11th in the big east. Wish I was wrong but "not even close" stays.

Season not over but NCAA bid is. NIT bound. Is what it is.

I'm not sure if you're diverging from the topic or mathematically challenged. If you're simply predicting a 10th or 11th place finish then stop reading here, I think that is indeed possible.

But the question is does 10-8 gete the team a bid. I don't think so either but if you think that 10 BE wins would put STJ in 10th or 11th place in a 15 team conference go back and redo your elementary school math classes. I believe it is almost impossible for 11 of 15 teams to finish with a winning record. Especially where the standings are now. Since going to an 18 games schedule 10 wins has guaranteed 8th place or better. There have never been more than 8 teams with 10 conference wins in a year.

Hypotheticly speaking
15 teams 18 game schedule 270 total games 135 winners 135 losers.

12 teams with 10 wins (NFL style with parity) 3 teams with 5 wins
all mediocre but Boeheim says 12 teams should get a bid out of the Big East.

Can't hurt that Temple was just upset by Duquesne. That said, we still have a lot of work to do this season.

This is basically a good summary of where we are and what remains ahead prior to the BE tourney:

SJU 15-8 overall (as of today)
3-3 vs. Top 50 RPI
5-5 vs. Top 100 RPI

Remaining Schedule
Vs. Top 100 RPI (away): @Syracuse, @Louisville, @Providence, @ND
Vs. Top 100 RPI (home): USF, Pitt, Marquette

SJU 15-10 overall (as of 2/15/13)
3-3 vs. Top 50 RPI
6-6 vs. Top 100 RPI

RPI #54
SOS #20

Remaining Schedule
Vs. Top 100 RPI (away): @Providence (97), @Notre Dame (43)
Vs. Top 100 RPI (home): Pittsburgh (31), Marquette (16)

Since the Redmen are still listed in the last four out according to Lunardi even after two blowouts it is pretty obvious that anyone who thinks that 11-7 in the regular season will still keep them out of the dance has no clue. 10-8 with two wins(and maybe even one) in the Big East would give them a very good chance to get in.

I agree. Look at past few years in the BE. 9-9 and 10-8's have pretty much all gotten in. 8-10 has gotten teams in a few times. Last year, WVA went 9-9 in BE play, lost to us, and did not have that many good wins in BE play, lost in BET first round, and got in. Redmen2014 is right. we are 7-6 right now with 2 bad losses and we are barely out. If we beat USF and Prov and go 9-9, you have to think we can't drop that far from where we are now. Any wins against one of Pitt, Marq or ND will only push us up. Providence now is a huge game and the way they are playing, could be considered a decent to good win. They are a solid top 100 RPI team. I really believe 10-8 were in, 9-9 we need to win 2 in the BET. Now if 10-8 and we lose first round BET to a weaker team, maybe were out, but I think over .500 in the BE gets you in. People say this is a down year but I think its just parity in the BE and how tough it is. There are 11 very good teams in the BE. Providence and Rutgers would be the top half of any other conference except B1G this year.

Also, the bubble works both ways. If we just hold serve and go 9-9 and 10-8, means we either avoided a bad loss or beat someone good. There will be other bubble teams that lose games and if a few of them lose to bad teams in conferences not as strong as the BE, they fall harder than we do.

11-7 will definitely put us in, while 10-8 places us on the fence. 10-8, along with winning a game (hopefully, we win the conference tournament) in the Big East Tournament should get us in. Quite frankly, I think we'll finish up either 10-8 or 11-7.

It is mathematically possible if the bottom 4 teams had zero wins against the top 11 teams. In a 15 team league, there are 18 games for each team, and 135 total games with 270 wins and losses. On avergae you play each league school 1.2 times per year, or each school once and 4 schools twice. If the bottom 4 schools played each other only once and each did not win at all against the top 11 schools, it is possible for teams 11-15 to go 3-3 against each other, and 0-15 against the rest of the league. That would leave teams 11-15 each at 3-15 (12-60) overall, and allow the first eleven teams to collectively go 123-75. In that event, it is mathematically possible for the 11 be play almost .500 each, and the 11th place team to have 10 wins. Those eleven teams would have to average just over eleven wins each.

Nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon.
