DLo posts a picture of redmen.com post bashing him

Now if only Steve Lavin would read this site and take some of the coaching advice of the posters here. Not that this is a realistic expectation, after all, he is clearly not taking the advice of his own mentor Keady.

I think it is embarassing that adults constantly rip kids on this site at extreme levels. Sarcastic or not you should be embarassed of yourself.

Go after after coaching or others but to spend your whole day ripping on 18 to 22nds it is kind of pathetic.

Don't worry not trying to lump people into the JOE3 character; he was the most pathetic.

I think Harrison has a sense of humor. Probably having a little fun with that tweet. I am sure he has heard worse.

This is hilarious if you ask me. I thought that was a great post by MM to show how people go overboard when it comes to criticizing players and often get personal. Had a chuckle when I read his post and a real nice laugh seeing DLO use it as motivation.

How's this for motivation DLO, this is your senior year and you haven't accomplished anything.

This should be a reminder that some people ( not mainman's sarcasm ) go way overboard with some of their personal comments about the kids.

At the end of the day they are still kids and like another poster I think Guinness said on this thread you shouldn't say something unless you'd say it to the person's face. Once and a while we can all go over the line but at the end of the day some of the comments get way too much

But now at least we know mainman is famous in the sju twitter sphere

Welp, I hope Sir Dom never got a hold of Marillac's comments about him. Dom would be somewhere in the fetal position wondering where it all went wrong.

Not only the part I bolded, but I don't post things on any forum/message board that weren't a certain vernacular or words that wouldn't leave my mouth in my normal conversation. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but with me, what you see here is what you get. I;m not going to type things on a computer screen that I wouldn't feel comfortable saying out loud, period.

And the part I bolded, my father told me MY WHOLE LIFE, don't say things behind someone's back (or, in this sense, on a computer screen) that you wouldn't look them in the eyes and say.

Great athletes, including Michael Jordan, have used sarcastic comments as motivation in the past rather successfully (ex: Van Gundy's befriending quip), so more power to D'Lo. This thread does touch on some interesting (and potentially harmful) issues between how fans and athletes can, and maybe should, interact. While I would hope that these young athletes ignore the rantings of a few, um, passionate fans, I imagine that were I in the subject line, I would read everything written about me on these boards (especially at that age). I do agree with a number of you that certain comments about these guys crosses the line of basketball commentary and appear mean spirited, or worse, are specifically written to agitate, influence, or effect a negative outcome for the program or the individual player. The thread started during D-Lo's suspension had pages of insults thrown at Harrison with many here calling for him to be thrown out of the program before a single detail of his suspension or potential reentry to the team surfaced publicly. It was in poor taste, and I even said so at the time, adding that my likeness is on my handle so that I am accountable for my comments. Coach Lavin is a highly compensated professional and is 100% fair game. So too is the play of the athletes, their desire, hustle, focus, physical and mental growth, and eligibility. Personal stuff, as it relates to their ability to participate and perform, seems to also merit (albeit a more careful) discussion. I certainly think that MainMan was doing what he always does, commenting on all of us posters succinctly and with great wit, it just happened that Harrison read it (it did have his name after all) and didn't see the humor in it. That's not his fault, nor is wanting to know what people say about you either, but this does serve as a gentle reminder for us to consider whether we would say to a player directly what we would post. Or in my case to only post (relatively) sober.
Now when should I expect this threat to get highjacked and turned into a how much Lavin blows and I'm just a kool aid drinking, sheep drone idiot for rooting for this team, and future recruiting success, while under this incompetent and tyrannical regime.

I think we all understand the only fair thing to do at this point is to sacrifice Mainman.
If he doesn't cry out, he will make it to Valhalla.

I was taught the same exact thing. You aren't my younger brother Chris by chance are you ? LOL

Was your father just appointed president of St.John's?

Hopefully this will stop certain posters from taking shots at the team, the coach, and the players with every post. They read the site, and if I was a player and read some of the crap posted by our fan base, I might consider transferring too.

Kudos to D'Lo for doing that. Granted the poster was sarcastic, the overall lesson being that these are just kids. Not retirees or mid-aged men. Those who continually bash kids and their personal character, on a consistent basis need their head examined. Obviously certain actions will warrant certain questions or comment from the fans, but the personal crusade against players needs to stop.

PS- I am a Molloy alum, and would love to see some Stanners on the roster.

My girlfriend just saw the picture if the new president and cracked up, well done!

Oh lord have mercy with this sanctimonious stuff. And if you considered transferring to another high-major or even most mid-to-low major schools, guess what?? THEY ALL HAVE MESSAGE BOARDS TOO! Iona has a message board. As does Fordham. As does Hofstra. As does Manhattan College. Gimme a break with the players-getting-their-feelings-hurt stuff. Every high major school has a message board and we don't read about that nonsense.

If a player REALLY is effected enough by a message board post that they consider transferring, then they aren't mentally or emotionally tough. Because 99.999% of the players at this level deal with the same stuff and don't consider bailing.
