DePaul

Gotta say, some of this game was a result of the opponent. They did not realize until it was too late, if at all, that SJU was quicker and more athletic than they were, so their press and running did not work. Branch is a very good player, he showed that today. He will be very good for us. Team getting more comfortable.

Harrison has to learn not to get too anxious when he gets shut down, and he can't force it. He did that a few times today. But, Lavin needs to have a better way of getting Harrison in the flow when the defense keys on him.

Pointer is a great glue guy.

We still need to REBOUND the ball better. It is frustrating that we let teams get 3 or 4 looks at the basket per possession. And, free throws, That's gotta get better.

All in all, the guys are playing better and more cohesive. Will win some and lose some. 500 in the BE would be nice (getting the 2 losses back that we should have won would be nicer).

Dom has looked great lately, had more TOs then I would have liked to see, but his offense is really improving. Lately he has been good on the FT line.Brabch also had an excellent game. He is also becomming an offensive threat. I dont know if Greenes injury has been affecting him, but did not play well, his minutes should dwindle. A nice team effort.

We showed how good we are when on the run - ran DePaul into the ground.- and the kind of shape we're in.

We also saw that Pointer can be just as bad as he can be good.

Anyone who passes the ball to Obekpa in a tight game with just a few minutes left should have to do 100 pushups.

DLo the man when it counted.

.500 in the BE!

Showed a lot of improvement today. Lots of guys got it done when D'Lo wasn't. Dom was great with a double-double. Branch showed that he is certainly our starting PG. really came on strong. We did collapse late again, and this should have been a 25 pt win, not a close game, but we will likely learn how to close out games a bit better thn we have been. Great win. Need to keep winning. Need to split with Rutgers and win at the RAC which won't be easy. Need to win 2 of next 3 at least.

Help.

I missid all of the game but the last 3 minutes.

I would appreciate if someone would be kind enough to provide me with a summary of game- who played well, who did not.

thanks.

JB 18 points on 9/14 shooting.
DP 14 points on 5/6 shooting and 11 boards.
DH 15 points on 4/13 and 7/9 and 8 boards.
JS 10 points on 4/11 shooting and 5 boards.
AG 6 points on 3/7 shooting and 5 boards.
CO 6 points on 3/3 shooting and 6 boards.

1. How many blocks for Obeka?

2. How tall are Pointer, Garrett? Sometimes the TV makes they seem as tall as Obeka???

thanks

Very nice road win!!! Wish we played a little more man early in 2nd but a good w!!
Also I think I think it's a problem when Harrison would go for 25 taking 16 shots!! The more we share the ball the better

Good win, played back to back good games. Can`t get satisfied yet though and gotta get a win at the RAC, Rutgers beat us at our house so we gotta return the favor. Can`t take a step back now.
Only one negative. We gotta learn to play with a big lead. The Asheville game when up 12 or 13 then they go on a 23-4 run. Up 12 on ND then they get within one, then this one up 17 then DePaul get within 3.
We need to find that killer instint and that`s when I`ll know that SJU is officially back. .
One last thing. When double teamed Harrison needs to pass the freaking ball or it`s a turnover. He`s no showtime dribbling the ball.

Time to beat RU on Wednesday. Get that 3rd straight win

I know a lot of posters here think DePaul is a pushover, but Oliver Purnell is doing some good things with that program. First of all they have two all Big East type players in Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young and this guy Crockett had an unbelievable game. Cleveland Melvin had a game below "his standards" and Brandon Young was virtually silent (had a decent game on the boards). St. John's defense was just flat out good today! Although DePaul is a team that we should beat if we want to be an upper half Big East team, but to beat this team on the road is not something to take lightly - we were 3 pt. dawgs for a reason (Vegas isn't dumb). I am encouraged by holding the DePaul offense to only 62 points (should have been less if it weren't for some of those three point prayers at the end).

Jamal Branch and Sir'Dominic Pointer have been trending upwards, so I expect some of Harrison's point total to decrease. I believe this is a good thing going forward and this team is learning how to play with one another. This all sets up for a program turning point type of game at the RAC on Wednesday and I am looking forward to it greatly!!

Dom is definitely emerging as a key player, and Branch gives us a calm at the PG spot that we didn't have before. We still make silly mistakes, but I'm hoping that they'll be fewer and fewer as the team matures. Only down spot -- aside from some out-of-control running and gunning -- was Phil Greene, who threw up nothing but bricks. Don't even remember seeing him on the floor in the second half. As you say, we really need to beat Rutgers at the RAC. It won't be easy, but with Branch at the point, I'm feeling good about that game. In the meantime, I can relax and enjoy the rest of the day. (Weekend would be especially nice if we were to get a commitment from Lawrence.)

Obkepa is not really a tall dude. He looks to be about 6'7 and that (along with his 24% FT shootign and complete lack of offense at this point) should keep him at STJ for a few years. If he was 6'10, he'd be gone for sure at the end of the year.

Right now it looks like four guys deserve to start, DLo, Branch, Sampson and Dom. Insert the fifth starter and rotate players based on opponents/game situations. But for now that's our core four.

I've seen him up close. He's taller than 6'7". Dont think he's quite 6'9" but he has massive wingspan. The fact that he has a lot of development in front of him is fantastic for SJU. To have s shotblocker like him is such a gamechanger over next few years. He's becoming a much better rebounder and will get stronger and better on offense over the next few. With all of our other pieces, we can really make a run in the next few years with the best shotblocker in the nation inside.

Dom and Branch both played very well. I expect Branch to get even better because I think he can be a consistent 3pt threat from the top of the key and he hasn't shown us that part of his game that much yet but he looks like he has a pretty decent 3pt shot when I've seen him take a few. Dome has just been solid all around the last two games. Greene didn't have a good game but he played well against Notre Dame so I don't know if it was his injury or if it was just an off day or maybe he was a little nervous playing in front of his hometown crowd. Jones came again and played well in limited time. He hit a nice little shot in the lane and Felix was active as usual in his limited time. Jakarr is improving incrementally and played well for where he is in his freshmen season.

A few things I didn't like, I dont want to see JaKarr or Dom running the fast break from one end of the floor to the other. It caused to many turnovers. Also, I don't want to see Obepka handling the ball at the top of the key and he has to secure the ball after he grabs a rebound.

I also agree with a previous poster who said that Lavin has to find a way to get Harrison back involved in the offense at the times in the game when we need to go to him. All in all a good team victory. A Big East win on the road no matter where it is, is a good win. Congrats to Lavin and the boys.

Obepka is the tallest guy on the team, I'd say he's at least 3 to 4 inches taller then Pointer. More importantly he has a 7'4" wingspan which = blocked shots.

Anyone who thinks any Big East game is a "gimme," especially a road Big East game, either doesn't know much about college basketball or needs an ego check. No game in this conference, or the future Catholic conference, is ever easy. Even the blowouts. Takes a lot of preparation and a lot of sweat and bruises.

Great play in the 2nd half. I had to listen on the radio which is never easy, but I love the fact we took their best punhc from the 8 min mark to the 2 min mark and tightened up. We are not a good offensive half-court team, unfortunately, so this is what we're gonna get. All-in-all, tough to be upset at 3-3 after 6 BE games, where, if you didn't want to sign on for this after the UNC-Asheville debacle, well....then, you're lying.

Who still doesn't think Branch is a BE-caliber point guard, neither? Kicking dirt on his grave after 2 games...*shaking head*

In the last 5 games, we've pulled off 3 Big East wins, so I think this has been masked a little, but
since the Villanova game D'angelo is averaging only 13pts a game(not terrible), but shooting 31% from the field, 14% from 3pt, and only 66% from the line.

Arguably the worst shooting slump he's had since he's been at St Johns.

We really need to get him back on track if we want to be competitive against Syracuse, Lousiville and company at the end of the month.

Good coming out game for Branch, looks like the rust is off and he is in the flow now.

Would have liked to see more minutes for Christian Jones, especially during that 2nd half stagnant period, think he could have provided an offensive spark
