Complementary guys, Williams & Owens made a difference. 13 rebounds, 9 blocks between the two, nice!

Clearly you, me and Lav are thinking along the same lines. Maybe we ought to grab dinner with him to, ya know, make peace?

Last comment, Ellison at times drives me crazy, but clearly is improving. Eight assists, getting ball to our three scorers, and no turnovers is beyond impressive.

I'll put the gun behind the "water box"

For the first time in decades we have Playwrs who can shoot and importantly are pretty good free throw shooters.
Off the top of my head best shooting SJU team since Mullin years. (?)

I don't ever recall an SJU team with this many outside shooting weapons, including the Mullin teams. They certainly had more talent, and they had scorers, but not shooters

Good win. Props to all those who kept asking for Williams to play. Not sure what Mullin was thinking playing him so little early? Maybe he wasn't healthy until recently. But even today Amar was first big off bench.

Nice road win TEAM! Big men efficient production (DW & TO)
Tied for first in the BEAST!Oh yeah!!!

Happy New Year all!!! May God bless you and all your loved ones!!!

Still wish that Sima had stuck around, but we are a better team without him now that Williams and Owens have been forced to step up.

The next thing Mullin and Co have to do is find a way to get Yakwe going and get Freudenberg to develop some more. If that happens this team will be very good come Big East Tournament time. Yakwe is key though.

Great road win. I thought staff made some nice adjustments, went big for about 4 minutes (Owens,Williams,AA, Ellison,Lovett) started
To control the game at point. Cleaned up the glass.

Williams getting Simas minutes is an upgrade.

I don't think Sima was athletic enough or had good enough hands to excel in the pick and roll type pro style offense that Mullin runs. Setting a pick then having to roll to the basket and receiving a pass on the move while rolling to the basket. What do you think Monte?

As disappointed as we all were after the LIU Brooklyn game, the long term outcome of that game was that we found our power forward. Even if he can only play half the game, that's more then what we were getting.

I was just about to post that.

2-0 right out of the box, very impressive, we already improved from last year and it's only 2 games.
WTF would a win Wednesday against a top 15 team do for these guys.

2 of the 3 wins vs. Top 15 opponents, I might start to dream big things.
Why not???

Started watching SJU ball during Felipe Lopez era, not sure if I am correct but I always thought for me that Barkley, Bootsy, Artest team was able to shoot the lights out. In any event its only natural that under Mullin he will stress a "shooting game" and I am not use to seeing such shooters since then and think this team can be a ranked team next year if it continues player development. This team seems to play down or up to the level of its opponent which I will take for right now.

Of Williams nine rebounds four were offensive. Additionally, they were at key times in the game. We have been deficient in this area for some time. Great contribution Darien!

Agree completely. The game we play just moves to fast for Sima, but not for Owens and Williams. Yakwe may still get there. He's had some nice pick and roll baskets over past few games and can be useful moving forward. If we continue to play well with this rotation, not sure how much PT Freud will get, but hopefully Chris can find a way to get 5-10 MPG of production out of him.

Just a wonderful road win. Real good second half. Lots of solid contributors across the board. BTW, Garrett looks like he walks or pushes off in every drive.

Viva Williams, Owens and Lovett! The one thing at this point is our coolness in staying in the game - not panicking at all, playing with patience. Have to credit Mullin. Would really like to see Owens start with Williams in next at center. Talk about smarts with their passing and blocks. Yakwe not even close talent wise to these two guys. Still can't understand Alibecovic's playing time.
Each game Amad shows better control plus his three point shooting is excellent. Creighton's next. Won't be easy but who knows what can happen at home.

Agree but also Yakwe can get himself going if he just becomes an animal on both boards, go after every rebound like it is yours. If you are doing nothing well just concentrate on doing one thing well. A good rebounder is a valuable asset.

Speaking of Freudenberg he didn't last long after throwing away a pass, in fact never saw another minute. Prefer he get more minutes then Alibecovic. Why is he even playing? I'm sorry he does absolutely nothing. Nice kid but give the playing time to someone who should be around next year.
