DePaul, Mon. Jan. 16, 4:30pm, FS1/970AM

Ponds Lovett and Amed shot poorly If those 3 shot like today against the top teams in the leaque we would have lost' But glad to see them win tonite while our best players were struggling

I'd rather win like we did tonight than Lovett and Ponds doing everything because maybe Ellison developing into the next scoring option which we desperately need

It's nice to see other players step up. Ellison is really growing on me. Owens had a nice game, Ponds nice 2nd half. Got some production from Williams. Although against DePaul, I'll take it. Hopefully we can gain some confidence from this. I'd love to steal 1 in NJ. Nice crowd, good to see.

Just on the cross county heading out to sag harbor Neil Young singing "old man I'm a lot like you" - haven't read posts here so likely saying similar themes:
Nice to see Felipe!
Hope Never Nervous Ellison was in the house to see his son's great performance
To win with Lovett having about zero points bodes well
Musinni good minutes and effort two of his jumpers in and out
Owens intimidates those driving to the hoop
Ponds was on a streak there w his outside shots
Ponds twice belted in the face w/o any fouls called
Nice W!
all the best

This was a solid victory. Here's my take on the fellas:

Lovett: Big fan, glad we were able to get a W with him playing like he has the measles.

Ponds: Kid is slick, hits big time shots. Really can't complain about SP.

Ahmed: Love the intensity, but you're not Carmelo, nor do I want you to be. Just chill when you get the rock a bit.

Yakwe: This guy.... Seems lost. Athletic ability is obviously there, basketball skills not so much.

Owens: This dude is like Camby Jr. Love his intensity and athleticism. Kid works hard.

Mussini: He is what he is. Give him an open shot, he's draining it.

Ellison: Actually like his game, needs a bit more arch on his FT's. Like his aggreviness.

Williams: I love this dude's game. Junkyard dog in the post. Needs more run.

Freudenberg: Let this dude play a bit. Shows some skills.

Amar: Like the kid, but he's a bull in a china shop. Good for some toughness.

Nice to hear Gus Johnson and Raf complimenting St Johns during this Nova v Seton hall game. Gus particularly impressed.

Nova is so disciplined and methodical to almost look bored at times - Brunson definitely conveys that but then assassinates you. I keep thinking they are a big man away from repeating but it doesn't seem to phase them.

Our best game plan is to play DePaul. :D It was a good game though and we had some very good ball movement at times. Congrats to the guys for working hard and having a good time out there. Some highlights for me were SP behind the back look to BA and TO ducking to the hole for jams on two different LoVett feeds.

Paul, did you (or anyone else) catch the interview they did with George Ravling at the beginning of the game? Around the 5 min mark.

Summary: Former Villanova player and ast coach George Ravling went down to DC in Aug '63 to hear Dr King. The day before someone saw these two 6'4 6'5 guys and asked them to be security guards the next day for Dr King. He ended up standing on the podium guarding MLK. When the speech was over Dr King went to fold it up and put it in his pocket and Ravling asked him if he could have it. He's had the only copy of the I Had a Dream Speech ever since.

Very interesting anecdote to history.

Last year 90% of this board was ready to run Malik out of town. Kid worked hard for 6 months as Happy told us and greatly improved. The majority of it was mental. Both Ahmed and Yakwe have big time skills. Hopefully the staff can get through to those 2 the way they did with Malik. Once that happens we will have 5 potential good scorers on the team.
Day can't come soon enough for me. :)
