D1 Coaching Changes

Paultz, I'm trying not to get my hopes up with your avatar but I feel Rice would give us a huge boost especially recruiting the hotbed of NJ. He may not have been the best head coach but I think he would make a very solid assistant and he'd take a lot of the load off Matt recruiting. Praying this happens.

Can we get him and D'Lo as a package deal? Rename him D'Angelo Harris and put a Bobby V. mustache on him. 1 year of eligibility :)

Per Jerry Carino
“Assistant coach Fred Hill is stepping down at the end of May, USA TODAY NETWORK New Jersey has learned. Hill has worked under Kevin Willard for the past five seasons — his second tour with the Pirates after serving under Tommy Amaker from 1998-200”

It seems we've been praying for Ron Artest since he was a freshman!:p

Doubt this happens, but

The University of Michigan's John Beilein interviewed for the Detroit Pistons coaching job on Thursday, league sources tell ESPN.

I am continually amazed at the number of People on this Board who are touting MikeRice for any job at St John’s . We all get his past credentials , etc . But, the Guy was Fired for cause by Rutgers . He was abusive to his Players . While it is commendable that he has taken steps to Rehab himself , that doesn’t make him a good candidate for a Coaching Job here. Let him , start over somewhere else . In fact , No other Major D 1 School has offerred Rice anything in almost 5 years , why not ? Any School that hires him , if ever , will be criticized extensively and in this Day and Age of Political Correctness , It just doesnt make sense . Besides , wirh all the positive Recruiting News this off Season and Ponds staying , I see no reason for Mike Rice here . I am satisfied with the current staff .

I disagree.

He did and said some really bad things... It's been more than a few years... He's coached HS and AAU, trained probably hundreds of kids since then and by all accounts there's not been one bad thing reported by any of these players, family etc.

1. You get him cheap
2. You know he will bust his rear knowing if he succeeds here he will be making more money at a higher profile school
3. Tons of experience Mullin badly needs
4. Major help recruiting and many of the top recruits in NJ love him like a father figure...they seem to have moved on why can't others?

You do realize Chris has a very good relationship with Rice & Matt has same. If CM hired him & don’t know that he will, I look forward to your commentary. Well actually, not. :)

Sly,
I'm all for second chances. Yes, he was a firey coach who pushed some of his college players too far but Bobby Knight and Coach K are no Boys Town Father Flanigan and they are in the Hall of Fame. As for "this Day and Age of Political Correctness", Fck that! The people who fall back on political correctness are usually worse than the so-called offenders by picking and choosing what is or is not politically correct.

Thanks Whopper. You do know Mullin was close to Slice too? Old Xaverian buddies, weren’t they . Of course you knew that ... Hiring Friends to work for you , isn’t always a good Management Strategy . Principles of Management 101 as i recall . Have you read it ? Don’t like my posts ? Don’t read them !

I think we'll argue with each other whether we get to heaven or hell.
Something about being Johnnies Fanatics.

Excellent suggestion.

Btw, never said they were friends, rather pointed out their relationship was very good. Ahh, reading comprehension lol

St Peters , MAAC Conference recently hired Shaheen Holloway , AC , at Seton Hall. If Mike Rice was seen as a Stud Recruiter, with contacts all over New Jersey and viewed as being as rehabilitated , why wasn’t he given a shot there . Incidentally, I don’t think Willard has filled Holloway’s slot yet , has he ? If not , maybe Rice should be considerred at Seton Hall for the AC job ? And , why not ? Maybe, he is so much in demand , he could go anywhere? But, it hasnt happened and maybe , never will. Possibly , Rice is where he belongs at this stage , Coaching in the AAU ranks and sharing his BB knowledge , which no one denies . St John’s just had a very great week. Ponds, Heron notably . To go with Figueroa in 2018 and , Carraher, Wright in 2019. Some people think Mullin may hire Rice , some don’t . Maybe he does . I dont see enough benefit from Rice snd I see a big downside . I like the current staff .

Let me take a stab if Rice were hired by Mullin:

SLYFOXX: I think this hire show incredible growth by Mullin. Also shows great compassion for giving Rice a second chance. If Rice does something embarrassing you certainly can't fault Mullin. I think it's clear SJU fans who have been hyper-critical of Mullin really have no clue

When confronted with earlier posts by hiimself...

SLYFOXX: My computer was hacked. I contacted Joy Reid at MSNBC for advice and legal counsel...
