Creighton Game #2

@LAVINWOOD: Mediocre attendance of 6,739 people for last night's game. Fans need to start showing up. This team deserves it right now. #sjubb

100% accurate. The thing is, fans are missing some really good basketball, and will only spend money once we climb into the top 20. By then they will have missed some really good games.

I think Sunday will be better. Georgetown obviously has their own following, but the buzz we'll get this week (hopefully with another win thrown in) should give us a bump in attendance. Lavin is on with Francesca today, that'll help. All the papers have been getting on board, so hopefully it gets people's attention.

G'town is offering students $30 for a round-trip bus ride to MSG Plus a ticket to the game. They'll be out in force, we need to be too.

St. John's in response is offering a $50 round-trip bus to MSG form Queens plus a ticket to the game. Their explanation is that the cost of living in NYC is higher.

SJU Student Tix are on sale now for $10 for Sunday's game vs. Georgetown and next Tuesday's game vs. Butler, both at @TheGarden! @SJURedzone

I wonder how much is the discounted cost for SJU students to attend games? It's hard to compete with Georgetown offering a round-trip to NYC plus a ticket to the game for $30 all-in. Hope SJU is doing something special to get student fans in affordably.

It would be really funny if we had a huge following and bought all the seats on their buses.

Just saw the $10 above-hard to beat that! Hope it gets a big response.

When I lived in N.Y. I never ever missed a game at the garden or Alumni Hall. In fact I even went to the DeGray Gym to watch the likes of Parenti, Crystal and Duckett. And in those days I also watched the freshmen games which wasn't hard to do, especially seeing Seiden, Alfieri, Engert, Roethel and Paschal play.

I never got to De Gray but when I entered SJU a team with two All-Americans and playing before crowds of 12 to 14 thousands at MSG was scurrying around to get practice time at Flushing High,Martin Van Buren High,Jamaica High etc. in 1958.

Also Flushing Armory. In those days we had to go to Queens College to play intramurals.

Our pathetic student fan base will have a blizzard full of excuses for not attending this Sunday.

The TORCH should write a front page story and an Editorial calling them out.

This is the most talented team we have had in years and most of the St. John's student body could care less.

Where was everybody?: Shame on St. John’s fans. Shame on local college basketball fans. You had the possible National Player of the Year, Creighton’s Doug McDermott, making his Madison Square Garden debut and red-hot "St. John’s playing its best basketball of the season, and only 6,739 people decided to show up.
Those who did get to the Garden were loud, energetic and into the thrilling nail-bitter. Still, when did we get so soft around here? The game tipped off at 7 p.m., and the weather is no excuse. It barely snowed.
Here’s hoping next Sunday’s showdown with Georgetown at the Garden, again set to start at 7 p.m., draws a far better crowd. St. John’s deserves it, the way it is playing these days."

We don't have a sixth man. Not even a walk-in.

Maybe you could come up with an excuse for a student not to attend MSG yesterday but attendance on campus doesn't seem to have increased to any great degree since the building of the dorms.
With a ten dollar ticket and a walk across campus all that is required you have to have no interest in basketball not to attend.

$5 for the CA games. Last year, there seemed to be more student attendance than this year. Inexcusable.

If Joe3 were not banned he would tell the on campus marketing to students sucks. Always has! When I was a student, without dorms, we filled Alumni Hall and always had buses to away games. Frats and sororities no longer the influence on games like the old days when everyone was expected to attend. A new generation of IPhone addicted kids rather IM each other about " he said, she said" than be at a silly basketball game.

It's called Tinder. Check it out. You'll have fun.
