In past years I would always laugh to myself when someone would post that we could make the tournament by winning the big east tournament. Not this year. We may not be capable of winning four in a row but it looks like we can compete with the top teams
Villanova is not the same as usual and Creighton hasn’t lived up to expectations. Maybe there is hope.

So wtf are these guys? I admit after the Butler W, I couldn't care less, I was like a beatdown is coming on Sunday at noon.
Well yes a beatdown did happen, though it was SJU beating down UConn at their building.

That was real f'ing sweet.

Now see what Butler did at home vs. Villanova, if they can do that to Villanova, then we certainly can at our place,
Friday is now a huge game, it's also a game that when you start feeling good about SJU, and you start hoping, is when we get smacked in the face, and they'll lose by 10pnt.

If the Johnnies fans show up at MSG it will be like a home court advantage but if not, advantage Nova.

I think all of us were still wondering if Soriano had improved enough to offer a major contribution against the more athletic centers in the Big East. Joel passed the test with flying colors. He has proven to be one of the top true centers in college basketball this season. That is not an exaggeration. He has also improved as a passer, and has room to get even better in that area.

Not to be overlooked- strong games by Pinzon, Wusu & Storr.
Pinzon & Storr minutes increasing, both 24+ min.
jones seeing his minutes diminish- I’m fine with.

whoever said 3 months ago that Storr would be starting by 2nd half of season, good call.
How many points did PINZON have?

I always like to read what haters say on twitter after a win.

Apparently, CMA has been wasting Pinzon and Storr this whole time. They completely leave out the fact that Pinzon has been hurt on and off the past 2 years and now is finally healthy, CMA has been high on Pinzon, I remember people complaining because CMA was playing him heavy minutes against Indiana on the road last year before he got covid. And Storr, was horrible on defense at the beginning of the year, but credit to him, he's improved drastically and been staying out of foul trouble and it's paying off for him.

Do you also enjoy reading the same haters on Twitter after a loss?

I am in the Dominican Republic for a family wedding weekend. I spent the morning figuring out how to stream this game and of course the Giant/Viking playoff game later. Honestly I was very pessimistic and was questioning my wisdom about watching the game at all. I really despise UConn more than just about any other team, but after I saw them destroy Alabama (currently #4) and Iowa State (currently #14) I thought they were a strong national championship contender and could possibly go undefeated in Big East play. Even with their recent defeats, I did not see how a team, like us, that was blown out by Villanova and Seton Hall on the road was going to be competitive going up to Connecticut to play the Huskies. Well I was obviously way wrong.

This is why you have to let a season play out. Under CMA we have had terrible starts to our Big East seasons. I don't know why we always start off our Big East seasons so slow, but the surprising turnaround seems to always happen at some point. I was just as surprised by UConn's poor play today, as I was by our good play. Soriano had five more points and just two less rebounds than the UConn twin towers of Sanogo and Clingan had combined. Storr and Pinzon were very solid and the team defense was really good. UConn was very undisciplined, careless with the ball and other than Hawkins shot terribly.

This is why I personally can not get on board with making absolutely definitive global statements about how great or how awful we are. I grant you that we were absolutely awful against Seton Hall, Villanova and Iowa State and really bad for the first thirty minutes of the Xavier game. That said there are typically ebbs and flows to a basketball season. Before today, I had a low level hope that we would turn the season around and do something worthwhile. That hope level has definitely been raised some today, but it certainly could go right back down again with a poor effort against Villanova on Friday.

BTW if someone would have told me at the start of the week that SJU would beat nationally ranked UConn by double digits this week, I would have definitely thought that would have been the Wednesday Women's game at UBS Arena that the someone was referencing.

We effectively exploited the fact that UCONN has no real good PG . Hawkins is shooting guard. I thought he was going to go for 40 based on his 1st half but , he wore down in 2nd . A great player. Likely a one and done . Still we neutralized him in 2 nd half . Shot better free throws in 2nd half too . A excellent upset Win for team . Need to build on it and win next 5 .
Hawkins is in his second year at UCONN. Was mostly a bench player as a frosh. Big jump this year.
