Chris Mullin hasn’t been our Coach now for years . He was selected by a Weak Administration and AD . Who also fumbled the departure of Lavin , who already had a foot out the door and left Zero in the pipeline .

I recall though when Cragg hired CMA many of the Mullin detractors wanted to kiss Mike’s ring as a great hire .

CMA was a Coach canned by 2 big time schools , Missouri and Arkansas.. He had a decent record but , consensus was from those Schools was he didn’t get enough Wins with the talent he had .

He did pretty well here in year 1 with a decent carry over of Mullin players including Figgy , Herron until he got hurt but , the mass exodus of all those players signaled storm clouds ahead .

He never got us within sniffing distance of a tourney but , was thrown a bone as BE Coach of the year . Which was a head scratcher .

His last season was a train wreck . For his faults as a Coach , Mullin did get us to a play in game . Where Marvin Clark shot 1-32 or something like that … I jest but , he was awful .

We were very lucky to have Ponds here to basically be a 1 man team . He carried our team for 3 years . Mostly single handed . Although Figgy and Herron helped a more than fair amount . Sometimes Simon , rarely Clark . .
.Posh was a good player but , certainly not as good as Ponds who gets barely a mention , now and again .

In my opinion , Ponds was our best player over the last 20 years . Hatten was close but , we had him only for a limited time . Hardy was great his last year but , only had that 1 big year

Ponds deserves more props from fans than he gets .

Mullin did an excellent job coaching here. Taking the worst team in the history of the program to the ncaa tournament in just 4 seasons. The fact that our Babe Ruth was put down and insulted during his tenure, during the CFC Era and it continues today is a disgraceful display and shows an embarrassing lack of appreciation for our beloved son and what he's meant to the University. The vitriol should have been reserved exclusively for the truly abhorrent coaches we had, Norm and CFC, that never danced.

The job he did at Mizzou (Elite 8) - allowed him to GET the job at Ark... only one "canning" ... well... 2 if you count SJU as "big time"

The old adage is you can't play a great zone without being great man-to-man. Since Rick practices are often closed (there are even drapes on entrances) it's because they work on stuff to be specific game ready. At times Rick appears loose with the lips and is, but not about game plans.

To me this is one of the compelling reasons to go to even low d1 games. I always glance to see Ricks exchange with players coming out, at timeouts when he gets pretty riled at a single player, or how he gets on refs after bad calls.

He never loses focus though, and always has his eye on the court.

For us it's a really once in a lifetime chance to experience one of the game's all-time great coaches at work.

The buzz is definitely there. Sju faculty and admins who rarely if ever came to games are showing up. The city interest in our program right now is far greater than attendance numbers. If we beat UCONN I expect we get a ticket bump. This may or may not be an excellent team but for fans in sttendance we are getting our money's worth
Great Post, appreciate that we finally hired b,c, or d. St. John's hired one of the greatest ever! Let's enjoy the ride ! Time goes by too quickly

Ponds lackluster final year here I think lingers in everyones mind. Thats why he doesnt get the props.

Big game tomorrow night. Real excited for this one. If Clingan is out, we have a shot here. Lets do it!!

I like to break BE schedule down in groups of five so

Play competitively at UConn & even if you lose the team and staff will feel positive

Get Luis a little game time in win over Hofstra

Spoil “someone’s” return w a win over Butler at “posh” CA 😇

Split next 2 between Nova away & PC at MSG

Obviously not settling, but would feel fine going 3 & 2 in first 5 BE games unlike the big holes we normally dig. At that point Luis rounds into game shape and the group seems as primed as we hoped to succeed running BE gauntlet

The key will be to have a good enough record heading into the last six games, so we can really go for a run. Get a Q1 win and a couple Q2 wins, just stay .500, and then:

Vs. Seton Hall (UBS)
@ Georgetown
Vs. Creighton (MSG)
@ Butler
@ DePaul
Vs. Georgetown (MSG)

You really want to go 5-1, but 4-2 would be imperative

in the words of Paultz... early liquid lunch??
I was then and remain now of the opinion that there should have been a complete and total moratorium on coaching criticism from the fan base regarding Mullin. He did as well, or better, than any coach we've had since 2001 not named Lavin. Those in our fan base that ever uttered, or will utter, even one negative word about Chris...should be ashamed of themselves and their lack of respect for our hero is abhorrent.
