Connecticut (MSG), Sun., Feb. 23, 12 Noon, FOX

Memo to Ed. It is only going to get worse next year if he doesn't proceed cautiously with his seating restructuring.

Dislodge more loyal fans from their seats via point system for Johnny come lately fan$ (no pun intended) and you will see more and more visiting fans in lower level seats in the coming years.

Those same people who have abandoned this program for decades and now return because Pitino has the team winning will not (IMHO) be regular attendees to all games at Garden next year like the true diehards the school will displace and alienate. So what then, the new season ticketholders will easily and frequently put their tickets on StubHub and the majority of those tickets will go to the visiting schools' fan bases who are willing to pay the premium secondary market prices to see their schools' one game in NYC.

All for raising money for program (it is a necessity), but can't have it both ways Ed. Cant tell people to pay top dollars and then expect them to take lower resale prices by limiting their sales to just SJU fans, even if we all would like that.
The points system is a combination of consecutive season ticket holding and money donated. So if somebody gets moved down ahead of you, chances are they're long time ST holders AND have given lots of money to the NIL. They're just as diehard as the folks who've had tix for 40 years and given ugatz to the school. Not sure your theory holds water.

Also, to keep it on topic...UConn sucks.

Most UConn fans who live closer to New York (like Stanford, Bridgeport,Greenwich) probably wait to see them in MSG rather than
Going all the way to Storrs for any games.Hopefully we don’t have too many. If too many then next year screw them and have the game in Queens or USB in Belmont

Except when uconn jumps out by 12, holds the lead and 5000 uconn fans sound like 50,000 and our fans act like they are in a library. Give me 90-10 w uconn in the 400s
That is frustrating. The problem isn’t only the percentage of fans it’s the reaction. UCONN fans are used to winning and as long as they stay close will be loud. I am hoping that St. John’s fans are starting to overcome their fear and will be louder.

As for percentage that should be interesting. I felt last season we started to have a significant number against UCONN. Since it’s a Sunday at noon I am sure a lot of UCONN fans grabbed tickets early. I am hoping that the late sales we’re mostly St. John’s and that the resale market is mostly St. John’s. People opened up their wallets for the Creighton game.

Don't mean to sound pessimistic, but I'm guessing will be closer to a 60-40 St. Johns vs UConn fans. And it's for the reason above, the Fairfield County crowd, who circle the MSG dates on their calendar each year and buy tickets early.

To add to my point from earlier last Sunday, people were paying hundreds of dollars a ticket on the resale market to sit in the corner of the lower ball. Good or bad going to a St. John’s game is a destination. I think it will be very Red. Hoping RJ can play.

I will be sitting in section 103 if anyone is near there.

Not sure Andrew but for us it's been building since the Kansas State game right after coach C. passed. Our fans get an A+ this season for being loud all game.

Re: The Fairfield UCONN contingent

~ UCONN has a campus in Stamford. It's primarily commuters. I'd imagine a fair percentage of them will be going to MSG. Last year when I took the MNR in, there were a lot of UCONN fans riding in. I didn't really like being around them, so I will be driving this season, lol.

We will see. The point system in 2002 failed miserably.

Hopefully I am wrong. I want to be wrong because that means the program is winning consistently. But to be honest, I also remember regular 16K+ MSG crowds from Jarvis era years quickly turn into half and even as low 6K+ crowds for many years including some weeknight games from Lavin era at MSG.

Better win and have sustained success or the Johnny come lately fans will jump ship again.
There are 9 pro teams in NY, so if they don’t win consistently it will be a struggle to again to fill Garden, especially at higher prices.

When I lived in Fairfield County there were a ton of UConn women’s hoops fans and a very modest number for men’s program.
