I’m no BB Scout but., I went to one of our local College BB games last Wednesday . University ofSCarolina - Beaufort .Holmes much > Key, but getting him harder I suspect
The whole idea that anyone in the media bought for a $econd that game was going to not be played in the Garden i$ just pure unadulterated comical. I get fan$, etc. maybe buying in for a time, but just a cla$$ic example of Pitino being Pitino and the$e $o called expert$ $alivating becau$e they don’t have to figure out for them$elve$ what they are going to write about today.![]()
UConn's win vs. St. John's at MSG has Rick Pitino, Dan Hurley admitting this is where they should always play
Rick Pitino told CBS Sports that, despite his earlier public intentions, St. John's will continue to host UConn at the Gardenwww.cbssports.com
Accounting major and likes to play chess, so I'm guessing grades weren't the problem. Sometimes kids get overlooked. They have a 6’9” freshman Center , Marcus Overstreet who in his last 2 games , has scored36 and 33 points .
He’s talk and long , not bulky but , about 220 lbs. He could put on some muscle . He’s left handed and he uses it like a surgeon .
He prepped a year but , is from Chicago . Whitney Young high school . Which I think plays in a top Chicago league .
He’s very athletic, quick and is unstoppable down low on the left side of the basket . Right handed post players can’t get to his shot as they can’t teach across themselves and get to his left hand .
I have no idea what his recruiting status was last year but , to me he looks like a D1 player . Not the D2 he’s currently playing in .
It’s surprising DePaul or other Chicago schools weren’t all over him . I have no idea about his grades , etc but , to me he looks like a Diamond in the rough player .
He has more offensive game than Elijifor and is very quick and runs the Court well
Perhaps those more involved in Recruiting and Scouting could pas his name on to our Staff ?
As I say , to me he has Game .
Who should his info be passed on to? One of the guys here , like BOE or The Whopper ? Maybe Dinkins as he follows SCarolina sports ?Accounting major and likes to play chess, so I'm guessing grades weren't the problem. Sometimes kids get overlooked. Seen my share of pressers. Having a hard time recalling a coach throwing his players under the bus this egregiously. 1) These players are looking to play pro or transfer to a bigger Nil next year. They, their parents and handlers are probably not enamored with the coach telling the world they can't shoot or defend and are small, slow and unathletic. Will affect post season stay or go decisions. 2) Doing Daniss no favors so blatantly having a favored son/teachers pet. Telling the world you have one good player, one sometimes good player and all else suck is wrong. Noway that won't foment resentment, jealousy and damage team chemistry. 3) Don't care what he says about college free agency in the pay to play Era or the frustration of building a program in it.what do you mean by this?

The difference in those days is that they didn't have options to transfer freely. How did Pitino manage his Players at Kentucky and Louisville ?
Kid Gloves ? Or Iron Fist ?
Of course , we know this generation of players and their Parents grew up in the “ every one gets a Trophy !”
Currently These players are all getting paid like it’s a Job , with a College Education thrown in, if you want it . Many don’t .
Once you take money to play , your immunity from Critical feed back vanishes . That’s how it’s done in the Business World .
If you don’t meet standards you need to step it up or , out you go .
Why should College BB be any different . This isn’t the Student Athlete days the NCAA wants you to believe still Exist . It doesn’t
I don’t get why the Colleges don’t require the Players they are paying to sign binding contractsThe difference in those days is that they didn't have options to transfer freely.
Binding contracts to make them what legally what....I don’t get why the Colleges don’t require the Players they are paying to sign binding contracts
I’m sure the answer is that the NCAA won’t allow it . The NCAA is like the UN . Useless .
I hate this NIL stuff and pretty sure it will end up ruining my love of college hoops. The thing is now even basically it was 1 year deals. I’m far from a lawyer don’t even know if it’s feasible but at some point if they end up employees of the school maybe you can go to 2 year deals with a non compete clause where the player is guaranteed 2 years pay for working ( playing ) but they can’t leave after the first year but they also have the option to sign 1 year deals ?I don’t get why the Colleges don’t require the Players they are paying to sign binding contracts

The main issue with players compensation isn't them actually getting compensated, it's what you're talking about. If the NBA had guys only on one year deals, it would be impossible to follow and difficult to create "bonds" with players.I hate this NIL stuff and pretty sure it will end up ruining my love of college hoops. Was having a few beers with a tax lawyer friend months ago and while he is not a sports fan at all and knew nothing about NIL, he wondered how they were being paid for tax purposes. I haven’t the faintest idea, and I would assume it varies greatly, but thought it was a very interesting point.I hate this NIL stuff and pretty sure it will end up ruining my love of college hoops. I think you hit the nail on the head Mike. Actually the players are employees of the school and their retention and scholarship should be purely based on performance on the court. If a player can bolt after one year for a sweeter financial deal, shouldn’t a coach be able to say to a player, you were “hired” to score 15ppg, you only scored 7ppg, you’ve just lost your scholarship as well as your NIL deal? Isn’t this where this entire NIL fiasco is heading????I hate this NIL stuff and pretty sure it will end up ruining my love of college hoops. The thing is now even basically it was 1 year deals.
