Connecticut (MSG), Sat., Feb. 3, 12 NOON, FOX

This article to me is a very bad look. Rick knew exactly what the rules were when he took the job and other coaches like Hurley, for instance, have to deal with the exact same landscape.
But to be fair, Hurley had a chance to build a program before NIL appeared and also has the benefit of being at a state school with unlimited resources.

But in terms of what he said, must agree with Paultzman that coach should calm down a bit before taking an interview. The team is not playing as well as it did a month ago.

A lousy half but the sky is not falling. Pitino will have some players back next year which will be an improvement over this year and I am sure he will have a shot at more talented portal players next season than he had this season.
These two facts tell me next years team will be an improvement over this years and this team is not going to compete for first place in the big east but it is not De Paul either.

OK, the sky isn't falling. Come off the ledge. I am disappointed too and wish things were different. BUT, this was the #1 team in the nation who happens to be defending national champs. Not saying all that happened is OK, but...

Marillac's observation of an open Dunlap several times in the corner only to be ignored frustrated me. Isn't that what the kid is in there for?

I will leave off with this...a text message from a guy I coach with who knows the game well and is a casual St. John's fan: "Watched the game and man did they stay with them, mostly. Really good team."

We need to step back a little and relax. Just the opinion of this 40+ year fan! On to the next game.
That play frustrated me because it’s well within Soriano’s skill set and it’s always there. You can’t double Soriano without cheating on Dunlap so it forces them to pick their poison.

He has such a wide base and he can pass the ball and see the court. Why don’t we play through him? We do next to nothing to set up our shooters.

That’s how I am trying to stay positive we have played the toughest part of our BE schedule probably the only team that has not played Georgetown or DePaul yet. If we take care of those 4 games beat seton hall and Creighton at home we would only have to win 1 of the other road games to get to 12-8 in league play. This team still has a good chance of making the tournament which is something they really need to do just to break the streak and help this program move on.
We could definitely still slip into the tournament which is a small miracle given the talent on the roster.

11-9 gets us in even with a first round loss in the BET.

But didn’t we all think there was allot if talent coming in this year ?

To go 12-8 we'll have to atleast split @Marq, and @PC, then need to go 5-1 in the last 6.

Not sure they can get a split on the road, and even if they do, are they really good enough to win 5 of their last 6?

Best I see them going is 11-9 which means they'll need a win in the B.E Tournament.

He has to play with the ball in his hands. Unfortunately, I don't surmise he's good enough on the high major level to consistently play with the ball in his hands. I could be wrong, but that's what I've observed.
+1000

Been waiting for him to show something all season…has skills..natural scorer…but something missing…just doesn’t have IT (and it ain’t Jenkins fault who is a warrior)

We did think there was decent talent coif in this year it no one thought we were were going to finish first and a couple of portals have been very disappointing but all in all it has gone pretty much as forecast.
what has been bad is the close losses to some good teams in a very good league

That goes for all of our shooters. Taylor and Alleyne are the only ones that kick it to shooters. That’s winning basketball. The best shot is 3 off a pass from the inside.

Soriano had Dunlap in the corner 3 separate possessions.
Alleyne was terrible today…turned a pivotal 3-on-1 into a contested layup by either bad decision or selfishneness and screwed up an opportunity to get a late basket off a late steal

My take on Dingle is that he should have stayed at Penn, or maybe gone to an A-10 school. That might have been an appropriate competition level for him.
His career at Penn was over..no option to play further

We’re going to get destroyed at Marquette. They figured out late that we can’t stop the pick and roll.

I made my first sports bet in over a decade today…small bet for UConn. I’ll be placing a massive bet for Marquette if the line is within 5. I suggest other bettors do the same. View attachment 2026
good for you

On paper we did.
Wilcher was 4 star local kid recruited by UNC.
Dingle, while not a great shooter at Penn, had a scorers' mentality and always got points.
Who knew that Taylor, who has a good shooting %, would rather pass like a point guard than take jumpers.
RJ Luis is the most naturally talented player on the team but has no mental discipline at present.
Cruz Davis? We hardly knew him!
Ledlum gives up height and speed and is a terrific rebounder. Unfortunately, his offensive game is just average.
Brady is a tall skinny kid with promise in a couple of years but will he stick around?

Pitino is on the money about the NCAA and the NIL. Both have changed the game to free agency bedlam. Schools paying top 15 players out of high school six figure NIL $ will always get the top prep kids. The only way for St. John's to stay competitive is to recruit the top upperclassmen with NIL from their current schools. There are just so many Cam Spencer's available so this staff has to do a better job of evaluating talent.

Yea but he knew all of that when he took the job. He said as much in his opening press conference. Going on a tangent like that after a loss just comes off sore loser-ish or a guy starting to wonder if he can even pull off making sju a winner
Frustration, frustration, frustration……..this has to be one of the few, if not first, time(s) he has to deal with a team that refuses to be coached. I know that is harsh but that is what I see.

Gotta tell ya, I really enjoyed reading all the articles and hearing all the interviews when Pitino was hired!

Agreed. I don’t see any value in his statements. I also didn’t think it was wise to pick a fight with Hurley prior to this game.
Hurley has recruited a very good team…nonetheless, he is a d-bag whiner…never stops…his guy could hog tie an opposing player and he would whiner
