Connecticut (MSG), Sat., Feb. 3, 12 NOON, FOX

I would include Yaxel Lendenborg to those you mentioned.
Do jucos film all their games? He may have been the hardest to evaluate without an in-person workout.

Would love to know if he immediately decided to decommit on his own, or if Rick called him sight unseen to sever ties.

Uh, no, that is not even close to being factual, not even close. The decision to jettison the vast majority of the roster was not a basketball decision but rather a cultural one.
I thought we were hiring a coach and not a cultural anthropologist

This wishing for players who aren’t here is becoming redundant and totally non-productive.

We have the team we have, for many reasons (change in team culture, NIL, desire for a fresh start by players who wanted to leave, judgment made by incoming staff) whether fans agree with the composition of our roster or not.

There’s still a lot of basketball to be played this season and we’ll have the whole off season for dissection, so let’s support the team we have now.

If you watched Pitino’s whole presser, he disagreed with Jenkins’ assessment of players not taking direction. He admitted it’s a team with physical limitations and a lack of outside shooting, but he sounded as though the team was working to improve and that we would get better results.

Team had bad second half and Rick had equally bad “presser” Two guys in room described atmosphere as “cringe worthy” to me. He needs to relax, gather himself and get back into winning column.
Sounds like the post game pressers of every loss by coaches like Jim Boeheim, Bobby Knight and a couple of other Hall of Fame coaches who despise losing.

Non-productive to who? Fans on a discussion board? I think we'll live whether people want to question the roster or not.

For the record, somewhere on the board back when he got hired, a poster named L J S A suspected that Lendeborg may turn out to be pretty good. Rest of the guys, Storr included, I could not give less of a crap about.

zubyThose post game comments are a very different tone from Pitino, hard to tell if it's shear frustration/thinking out loud or if he already knows some players heading for the door. I'd love to see Zuby, Dunlap, and Wilcher stick it out.
Well he is losing 5 or more 5th year seniors at the end of this season. Don't see Brady or Zuby leaving. Also doubt Wilcher will leave but who knows?

Part of the strategy was taking guys early in careers so they were essentially locked up by having already used their free transfer. But then the rules changed. At this point, wouldn't be shocked by any names leaving. I will actually be pleasantly surprised if Luis is still here next season.

Alleyne was terrible today…turned a pivotal 3-on-1 into a contested layup by either bad decision or selfishneness and screwed up an opportunity to get a late basket off a late steal
What specifically did he do that was terrible? He made one bad play all night because he has a really bad handle.

He took 3 shots and made 2. He was one of two players that defended above average. He also had 2 assists in 14 minutes.

I look for a team to work to realize their potential as much as possible, to get better as the season goes on, to learn from and eliminate mistakes. This team is not doing that, they hung with UConn better up there so I take no solace in hanging in the 1st half and getting dusted in the 2nd.
And I am not sure how casual a fan your friend is and he is certainly entitled to his opinion but getting outrebounded by 6 by 4 GUARDS speaks volumes to me about what I have commented on all season, the lack of effort and focus by this team,
Pitino has not forgotten how to coach but unfortunately, we have a team that seemingly refuses to accept or apply his coaching.
This team may still make the tournament but deep down, as a fan, at this point I really don’t care if they do or not. This is just me, but I don’t respect their lack of effort.
Agree with everything you’ve said Logan. Get out rebounded and beat to loose balls is all about effort. So is playing defense.

The loss was Clayton…He and Jenkins would have rivaled any BE backcourt.

If we’re throwing out hypos here the plan was likely Posh and Clayton and that would have been sick.

Clayton could pick up for Posh’s lack of shooting and the steals and easy points would have flowed.

Jenkins can’t guard anyone at this level. Clayton is very good on defense.

Yet he’s complaining about culture in February while those jettisoned are literally all winning elsewhere?

I have to disagree LJSA. Forgetting about Coach K who was pretty old, I respect what Jay Wright did - retired because he didn't like and want to deal with NIL. But if you decide to take a job when NIL is clearly where we are, don't whine, just deal with it like everybody else.
The bottom line is that Rick needs to realize that you can no longer run a system that takes 2 years to learn. You have to simplify things and get top talent . So, this way the team can learn things in a few months and then just let their talent take over. I know he wants to develop kids but there will be very few kids who are willing to do that. They want to play. The good is I think we have three kids in Dunlap, Wilcher and Ejiofor who seem to be willing to go that route. But to have a system that takes 2 years to learn you need a lot more than just 3 guys like that.

We need to give RP time. Yes we have stunk for over 2 decades and it’s hard to be patient any longer. I thought the team played well the first half. We have to accept reality we are far from being close to a number 1 team in the country. We would have kept it closer if we could make our free throw shots. I would think that RP is not going to go out in his last dance as a punk. Our team is comprised of mostly last minute band aide players who haven’t seem to find chemistry amongst each other.

He ran the same system at Iona and did fine with transfers and young players. Clayton was the conference player of the year as a soph and Cruz Davis was a solid contributor as a frosh. Even Jenkins was a first year transfer.

His system requires athletes to generate easy points. We have the least athletic backcourt in the conference by a wide margin. SH looked like the 2016 Jamaican Olympic track Team compared to us.

As in the past, it is all about playing time.
Unfortunately, today, it is also about the Benjamin's.
Think about this.....the top 2 or 3 players on major college basketball teams earn more than most retirees here on fixed income.
Now that players are paid, seeing lack of effort by 19 or 20 year olds, requires a firm hand and discipline.
Pitino needs to embrace this new reality and I think some of his post game comments are due to his developing reality.
