The UConn alumni drinking event starts at 930 am before the game lol. They are going to be a rowdy bunch by game time....

Will be hard to repeat that performance, and UCONN is playing back to where it was before, so it could be ugly. But, I am hoping we keep it competitive and maybe we have some match-ups that work to our advantage. For our sake, can't be a playground game like last night's. Let's see what happens.

What are the odds that Soriano plays Sanoga the way he did in the first game? Based on his last few games, not good.

I'm older and so I went to many Uconn and St. John's games back to the early 70's and later on to the BET games with a few friends and work buddies some of whom are Uconn fans, they either went there or live around Hartford. Nicest guys in the world, in their late 60's now. Because of me and some other group buddies who are Johnnies, these particular Uconn guys root for the Johnnies unless we are playing them. They also hated Uconn leaving the Big East, but don't make those decisions obviously.

I tell this story (and one more) to shed light that there is another side to their fans. They have some decent ones too. As the saying goes, you can't judge an entire group by some bad apples. These friends admit there are more than a few bad apples. In fact, they admit that some of their fans act like dopes and compare some of them to Philly fans.

Anyway, the other story. I go to a Saturday night Uconn-St. John's game at the Garden about 15-20 years ago. We win it was great. I'm heading home but detour to a watering hole (Keen's) for a celebratory nightcap. With my St. John's baseball cap on.

Three couples who were older than I was at the time were finishing up their drinks at the bar. Two of them come over to me and congratulate me on the St. John's victory. Then one of them tells the bartender, that my drinks are on their tab. We spoke for a while, the guys and women couldn't have been nicer and I didn't know them from Adam. We had a very nice time talking BB and other things. They were staying over in the City for the weekend.

Now I have seen the drunkards and fights in the stands and boorish obnoxious behavior from their dopes, but keep in mind it does not represent all Uconn fans.

(Let the slings and arrows commence)

I have no doubt that there are decent people within their fanbase. Good for them. I also have no doubt that they have, as a majority, the most rude and obnoxious fanbase I have ever seen. And I have attended over 2,000 sporting events (baseball, football, hockey, college and pro basketball) in my life so I don't consider it a small sample size.

We decided to go this year but attending a game against UCONN is always a hard decision as no matter the outcome of the game you know drunken idiots are going to get in your face as part of the "experience."

The years they were not part of the Big East were glorious and I hope their football team becomes a national powerhouse, ASAP.

Someone having to post that they actually know a decent person who is a UCONN fan, because it is so rare, actually tells you a lot about the fanbase too.

Having graduated St. John’s and lived in CT a good amount of time, I would say a few folks are educated basketball fans ( went to high school with a lot of folks who went to Storrs) but for the most part they’re ass clowns. The old folks use to love watching the Uconn woman on PBS and getting a Peter Paul and Mary boxset for a donation.

Unfortunately once they went on their run of winning titles starting in the late 90's, the fan base started getting very entitled. Especially the generation who was going to school there around that time and beyond. It's only gotten worse. So yea, I wouldn't be surprised if the older fans are classy while the younger ones are insufferable.

They won 4 national titles in 15 yrs. The last 2 teams went on magical runs. In reality an amazing feat. They’re an entitled fan base. The older fans which were not many of them, saw the 90’ season as a dream. Up until 88’ NIT team they were a doormat for the conference. The only reason they got into the Big East because the founders of ESPN were Uconn fans. In 1979 Holy Cross was viewed as a much better program. Uconn invested in their program, St. John’s did not!
