Coaching Carousel

Thamel was just on ESPN says Rodney Terry job status at Texas is in flux. Even if they slide into Tourney may not save him.

Also said again two names he keeps hearing for Nova are Pitino Jr and Willard.

And I can tell you I heard from someone I trust that the Willard to Nova thing is not crazy.

Can you imagine that? What a kick in the teeth for SHU fans that would be...?
There was a really good Texas guy on the Curry Sage Hicks' Search Szn the other night.

Texas has so much F-U money that it sounded like they would be targeting guys like Self.

It’s hard to map out a path for Richard Jr to be ready to take over for Rick when he’s done.

On one hand, hard to imagine he stays at New Mexico long enough (if he’s doing well enough to be our successor) to jump right from there to here. On the other hand, if he does jump for a high major in the mean time, would he leave one HM for St. John’s if he’s doing well? And if he’s not doing well at said HM, would we want him then?

I think the best bet would be him having great success at New Mexico, a few sweet 16s or elite 8s, and for him to feel like being there is a better opportunity to win than being stuck in the middle of a huge power conference.

Sounds like they'll get NIL guarentees if Pelicans assistant Dan Geriot gets the job.

I would really like to know which Iona money guys said "I'm not giving you any money for Tobin Anderson but if you get me an NBA assistant who's never been a head coach at any level I'll just give you a check and you fill in the number."

Apparently his father is loaded and would be heavily involved.

I just texted someone I know at Iona who told me he saw this coming a mile away. Some internal issues within the program and overall record.

Actually, he coached Cleveland's G-League squad for one year, and went 12-34.

He did that a few seasons at the Hall too once he survived those first 4-5 years. Used South Florida one year, as I recall, which I think Pitino floated as a possibility to help him get more $ lol. Then did it with Virginia Tech.

Considering that Rick has 4 years to go on his contract here, so much can happen between now and then that it's way too soon to start speculating on a successor. Throw in the fact that Shanley will be 70 in 4 years and who knows who his successor may be.
