Coaching Carousel

So did I. I started to post that he was at Stanford but looked it up first and saw he had indeed gone to Cal later. I don’t remember that at all.
He was the very definition of a guy who didn't want to leave the area.

OKAY HERE IT IS EVERYONE - Top Ten Jobs available Plus a bonus ... You be the AD. Who do you think is going where? my picks in ( )

1. Texas - (Rodney Terry gets interim removed)
2. Notre Dame - (they sniff around Pikiell because they love boring basketball before landing on DeVries from Drake)
3. Georgetown - (sorry guys Rick Pitino)
4. Georgia Tech - (Bob Richey)
5. Texas Tech - (Grant McCasland)
6. Ole Miss - (Chris Beard)
7. St. John's - (Speedy Claxton, I think we try and fail to reach a deal with Pitino and Mack and have a great choice #2 in Speedy assuming RP and CM are 1&1A)
8. Washington (not available yet - Steve Alford)
9. Cal - (Russell Turner)
10. Manhattan (lotta rejections and they end up paying Tobin Anderson to leave the friendly confines of Madison)

Bonus for NJ Tech... (if it pays equal to his current gig, Grant Billmeier_

This next week is of utmost importance for the future of SJU basketball. Four years ago second rate coaches were turning down the SJU job or refusing an interview and next week, not because of anything SJU did but because of off the court transgressions one of the great college coaches of recent times may be willing to take the job.
Based on strategy, recruiting and all the other requirements of running a college program Pitino probably stands along side Bill Self as the top of the class. Certainly without his off the court troubles SJU couldn’t dream of making such a hire and if it misses out on him will probably never have an opportunity like it again.
There will be a hundred Speedys and the other candidates mentioned as possible coaches but this is a chance of a lifetime for SJU. Hoping Father Shanley can get it done.

Assuming Georgetown swings and hopefully misses at Pitino, I wonder if they’ll look at Kenny Blakeny at Howard? He’s done an excellent job rebuilding that program.
Moose, are you the one who is friends with him? I think I remember someone on the board being buddies with him.

Frankly, I don't think Rick Pitino would be a good fit at Georgetown. While it could be considered the Duke of the Big East, Rick has made his bones at schools like Louisville and Kentucky. Those schools were much easier to recruit elite players not up to elite academic standards.
At St. John's he could recruit at will and rebuild quickly.
He would be king of the NY hoops world and would coach in the mecca where he would be a celebrity.
I am sure he would want to make his wife happy with this final career stop and write his final chapter here in NY where it all started a short drive from Saint Dominic's and Oyster Bay, an area I call home today.
Keeping my fingers crossed!🤞🤞🤞🤞
