What made the 50 guys ranked higher than them spurn STJ? So tell me that. Your question is stupid because every kid is different, STJ will get their share, and maybe more than their fair share thanks to Lavin, but it will be a smaller share than elite schools like Duke, UNC, KU, UK, etc....

I'm not so sure that we'll be getting a smaller share than these schools. KU is the only school grabbing an inordinate amount of top players. As you said in a later post, it comes down to the coach in many cases, and we've got a good one. As we start winning with this group and it snowballs into top recruits joining, I'll take my chances with Lav against these other schools. Not to mention, that Duke better get going with their recruiting or we'll be ready to pass them soon. Coach K is a great coach as we know, but they're slipping on their recruiting IMO.

Relax with the tude there guy...this is a sports forum. I never claim to know the reason Sampson did... I offer suggestions. Obekpa on the other hand flat out said why he came. I guess you are more negative than me about this team and I thought I was negative.

Suggestions you posit as definitive. FWIW you're a dope but you're also energetic. I like that. PS I'm not negative at all. Just stating facts.

Duke has two top 25's this year, and 3 top 30 the year before. They're dying. Arizona, UCLA, and Baylor are recruiting powerhouses now, Jimm B too, and Billy the Kid gets top kids each year. If Lav gets Lawrence or Martin it will be his first top 25 recruit at STJ. I'm going to pretend you didn't claim Kentucky isn't signing an inordinate amount of top players and Roy's always got a great class. STJ just isn't in that circle yet.

That said you can be a top 10 team with guys ranked 50-100 but they usually need to be soph's or jr's and you need to keep filling it up because the hit rate is lower. That's what Lavin has done and I'm sure this year or next we'll see the fruits of his labor. I think they'll surprise this year due to the amount of minutes the kids played last year but we'll see.

Correction: When you said KU I now realize you meant UK. So substitute my comment about Kentucky with a statement that Kansas, while not as successful as they used to be, is still pretty strong and now that they have Norm back, fuhgeddaboutit. Just kidding.

Thanks for the correction...yes, I meant UK not KU. :silly: I'm sure Kansas, UNC, Duke and others will do fine, but I do think we'll be right there. Kids are clearly buying into Lav's playing style and I do think we'll win quite a few games this year, which only furthers the cause with top 25 kids. They'll come.

As for Duke, my point was that they have not done much in the last few years with recruiting athletic wings and it's hurt them. Gbinije was one, but has moved on. When they play athletic teams, they either shoot lights out or they lose. We'll see if Jefferson changes that. I was very disappointed when Duke came off the schedule, as I think they are a very good matchup for us. Maybe we get them again next year, and hopefully with Lawrence or Martin (or both) on our roster.

Anyway, I'm getting off topic. I'm encouraged by McCullough coming to our practice and hope he's not disappointed that Lav hasn't come to see him. Lav is probably taking the same approach that we've heard he's taken with other recruits. Let them know we want them, but don't pressure them. Here's to hoping that approach works again with a big time player.

Duke is dying? Please tell me you aren't implying that we can be better than Duke in these next few years. Let's get ranked first for god's sake. Even being ranked 20th nationally wouldn't indicate we are anywhere near Duke territory. Baby steps people...baby steps! We do seem to scare Duke whenever we play them though if not blow them out (2011) ^5

Bingo,
That is what Coach is trying to do as he understands that it is next to impossible at this point in time to get the MCAA players. He is filling the roster with very good talent which happens to fall outside the top 25- Moe, Jakaar, DeAngelo, Sir Dominic, Amir, Jamaal and JCAA like Gift and Orlando. As we should know a top 50 high school player with good coaching can often have the same impact as a junior and senior in college as a freshman who was a MCAA.
Coach clearly understands what he has to do to make us a top 15 team. The pieces are in place and now it has to translate into wins on the court this season for the SJU machine to gain and maintain momentum. If we can win 20 this season, which many of us excluding lawmanfan agree upon, we can be a recruiting juggernaut.

Duke looks like they'll have an incredible 2014 class coming in after this past weekend. I'm not sure about their 2013 class so far but their 2012 class isn't too shabby. I believe Rodney Hood has to sit out a year. Duke's not going anywhere or falling of in any way. Their problem has always been the same. Not being able to land a big time Center.

I'm assuming austour was being facetious with "Duke is dying."

Joe3 you are one funny dude. Reading comprehension is obviously another of your weaknesses but I love your enthusiasm.

You don't end up where I do education wise if reading comp is a weakness. Contrary to what you think, you are not right about everything.

I'm right that you didn't understand what I wrote because you weren't clever enough to understand my sarcasm despite your otherworldly education. Keep it up kid. This board is always brightened by a little comic relief.

If it takes putting down a 23 yr old on a forum to make you feel better about yourself, then I'm glad I could help. Keep em coming! I want to help by being the fall guy for your shortcomings and insecurities.

I don't even enjoy it but you put a ball on a tee I can't help but pull out the driver. But I am serious in saying your earnestness and enthusiasm are admirable. You just need to read and listen more. I agree with you on so many things and yet find myself arguing with you simply because you have no idea how to properly communicate your ideas and back them up.

Yo "GiveNGo" website:

You listed "Syracuse, West Virginia, Arizona, and North Carolina" as teams of interest to Mr. McCullough.

A few questions:

Because you omitted mentioning St. John's, is it your opinion that St.John's has no shot with Mr. McCullough?

If not is it your opinion that Syracuse, West Virginia, Arizona, and North Carolina are ahead of St. John's on Mr. McCullough's preference list? If that is not your opinion then why did you omit mention of St. John's?

Thanks.

BREAKING: 2014 Brewster Academy (NH) forward Chris McCullough tells me he has committed to Syracuse.

Part of me just wants to laugh. You know, laugh because you cannot cry.

My only shock really is how early this is. Not suggesting that he'll de-commit between now and then.

I guess the staff thought they'd have more time with him. I knew something was up when his teammate committed to Cuse last week and his coach at Brewster was suggesting that another one might be coming.

At the end of the day, I want players who Want to be here. Not players who want to flirt with us or use us as leverage.

Here's hoping this 2012 Johnnies team puts on a show this year for all the recruits (especially the locals ones) who think we're not up to snuff.
