Chasing Nova

Hoping we win a few remaining games, but unless we play differently as a team in the next 3 games, we will lose the next 3 games. Or the other teams don't play at their previous levels. There is no game we can point to that would suggest that we'll be better ranked teams. We haven't done it all season or have we improved our level of play.

What we have been is rather consistent - consistently average performance. Hopefully they'll be more competitive and not get their doors blown off against mu and nd. I can live with losing with effort and execution. I hate hearing and seeing clank after clank.

Or the other teams don't play at their previous levels.

If those teams do not play up to their levels; we might be the reason.

Plain and simple we are an easy team to defend and an average defensive team at best IMO. When not maximizing what we have over most of the game, we can get blown out. Our lack of muscle is a key deficit in that mix. Next year!

I continue to be amazed at the "us vs. Nova" logic. It is not us vs. them. If it wasn't for a certain poster, this discussion probably wouldn't even be occurring. We're not chasing Nova. We're chasing #10.

I said last week that a Nova loss to Seton Hall is as crippling as any upcoming loss that we would have because of SH's poor RPI. Nova is a bubble team, we are not.

I'm looking moreso at what the other conference bubble teams are doing because ultimately there's only enough room and they are who we really are competing with. We've slipped even off the last 4 out. We can't afford any more losses, bottom line.

As the "certain poster" you are referring to, the reason I started the thread wasn't because we were chasing Nova but b/c from all accounts, the Big East will probably get 8 bids this year. I would be surprised if we get 9 but I guess it could happen. Having said that, when I started the thread it was b/c at that time there were 7 locks (Cincy was still in good shape) & Nova had not yet beaten Marquette (or least I wasn't aware of it) and we had not yet lost to Pitt. Given the schedule that Nova had left at the time, it was not inconceivable that they would lose 3 of their last four. We had 2 homes games left and a winnable road game. If things had played out the way we hoped, chances were probable that we could have leapfrogged Nova as the 8th team. Let me repeat that, chances were probable, I never said guaranteed. But there are always people here who have a crystal ball and have the answer to everything, you know, the same ones that saw Nova losing last night to The Hall lol. If you disagree with my scenario then you must believe that the Big East was going to get 9 bids, assuming we had taken care of business, which unfortunately we did not on Sunday. I would be shocked if the Big East gets 9 bids based on regular season play.

Well. Nova did it again. Beat Gtown tonight to stay alive. That guard with the funny name Archdukeferdinand is getting better and better and Nova just does what they do best when playing at home against ranked teams. I went to the opener at Nova, the overtime thriller with Harrison and Archdukeferdinand each going for over 30 points. It was and incredible display of scoring by two guards that the Johnnies could have won, except for an errant foul by Garrett on Hilliard's pump fake three attempt. Hilliard did the same tonight in a critical stretch, suckering a Gtown player. Nova must practice the pump fake. Well I guess chasing Nova isn't a bad
thing as they have been a pretty good team this year and a better program. Prognosticators on ESPN stated they may have punched their ticket to the dance tonight,
Maybe Providence will be the eight team invited with a win over UCONN, who lost to USF tonight, minus Napier again.
Johnnies' will have to have a miracle Big East tourney to go dancing with the stars.

First of all, Santa is not showing up ths year and whether he visits next year is quite up in the air. Secondly, many posters on ths and other sites put down Arcidiacono ( after we didn't get him) with the usual posts of " we didnt want or need him anyway". Or " the kid is not athletic enough to play for a Lavin coached team" :) is there realy anyone on any site who wouldn't trade the kid for Harrison in a heartbeat. How did each fare against the better teams in the conference? Just check out their stats against G Town and most of all, who is still playing and perhaps dancing?

While we have heard all the foolish talk about Marco being a favorite just because of his complection, we even more so hear how a kid like Arcidiacono can't be that athletic cause of his skin color as well. I could care less what color a kid is as long as he can shoot, has a good basketball IQ and does not have a lousy attitude to go with him.

Why cant he hope for a miracle? He is a fan of this team, and as a true fan he is going to cheer for the johnnies till the bitter end. I will be doing the same. Sure maybe there is little chance but as a fan of this team I am going to cheer until it is officially over.
