Champ

Tonight was the worst I have seen Julian.  Not talking about his performance, but the body language.  I agree with Andrew, I feel for him.

If it's nothing physical, I say he needs to shoot his way out of this.  Right now he looks gun shy.  Great kid....definitely rooting for him.
So, you expect his body language to be good, when he's playing like this?

You want him to be honky-dory, put on a happy face?

No, just an observation.

To be fair, you're not the only one who has brought this up.

I just don't know what bringing up his body language means, unless you think that's the reason why he's slumping.  Personally, I think the missed shots come first.

If he wants the nba he has to play one more year in college

Like Andrew & JF, I feel for Champ as it's painful to watch him out there and I'm sure it's a whole lot more painful for him right now. Lots of sensible theories as to what is causing his struggles (being guarded by smaller quicker guys, no outside threat to divert attention, lingering effect from off season injury, confidence taken a hit etc.) and possible it's a combination of all of them. Seems like a great kid and hope he comes out stronger on the other end even if may be too late to salvage our season.

There is a difference between being honky-dory and looking actively depressed out there.

All us here who are crazy enough to spend time posting about a college bball team, have most likely played the sport at one level or another. Like any group collaboration, one negative/pessimistic/etc individual can have an impact on the energy/outlook of others. When that one individual is your best player/supposed Leader.... thats not a good look,

Is he struggling- obviously. Could he still exude excitement (however hard that may be) / encourage others / clap it up etc.... Of Course.

That sequence at the end of the first half.... a Wusu bounce pass when Champ was expecting a Lob, leading to the Posh foul.... Wusu and Champ were having it out with each other for about 30 seconds. Would have liked to have seen either of them take ownership of the mistake and move on. This that sequence was a small microcosm of the overall issue of this team just not being on the same page more often than not.

Maybe the cure for his shooting hiccups is to get his FT shooting fixed first.  He should be out there with the whole team getting that part of the game fixed.  I don’t think running a full practice should run, just work on the broken parts.

It's odd.

Had that monster game vs. DePaul (34 pt / 16 reb), then went to Providence and went 0-8 from 3.  Then onto Uconn he went 4-9 from 3, then just dropped again.

That Providence 0-8 from 3 pt range seems like the earliest inflection point.

Here's the game log for season.

It also crossed my mind that the contact resulting in stitches may have played a role.  I am not sure if it showed up on TV, but if you were at the game, you saw a different demeanor from Champ.

Admittedly....pure speculation.

This makes sense because he looked unusually winded at times last night.

He was initially symptom free I think.  I know that doesn’t necessarily ensure against  getting long Covid.

He's had games of 34, 27 and 25 points since his covid
I'm not supporting or denying, just that I know Covid has had some sneaky re-occurring effects with people and I wouldn't rule it out.    I just hope whatever it is ends soon.   He is such a solid citizen representing our school, has played his butt off for us, and is much much better than he has shown recently.

Once you start doubting yourself (as to making the NBA), you may lose the focus you had and force yourself!

For his sake I hope you are right.  I know of some people that nearly 2 years after Covid have serious lingering after effects.
