Can we please start another complaining thread?

1. Dont' get upsold at the counter.  Agents are trained to do that.
2. Your auto insurance covers rentals
3. Major credit cards also offer collision waiver insurance as a perk.  (Agents threaten that they will charge you immediately in an accident and there is a deductible)
4.  Reserve early but check rates constantly up to departure.  They often drop rates 24 to 48 hours before rental but you ate locked into a rate unless you make a new reservation.
5. If you rent a smaller car and they arent available, an upgrade is free.. they cant downgrade you without lowering your rate.
6.  Grace periods on returns have been shortened as have been hourly rates.  In as little as 2 hours late you can be charged for a day.
7. Know where the rental car return is, especially if off airport and allow sufficient time to make a wrong turn.
8. I avoided off brands which in my experience can be sleazy and hard to fight if you have a problem.
9. Prepaid rentals can save you money but are not refundable

I don't rent often but #8 all the way.

One thing I'd add about car rentals is to make reservations at multiple agencies since they don't have a cancel penalty.  If one company runs out of cars, you still have options, and you get hammered on price if you walk up to a counter to rent without a reservation.

During normal, non-pandemic times for renting a car when the market isn't completely out of whack, I've found Priceline name-your-own-price to get me great deals at national brands.
I don't rent enough to be a loyalty member of any one brand.
And I don't care what car I get. I want one that has four wheels and won't break down.

And I know this is debatable, but I almost always pay for the tank of gas at the start of the rental if it's more than a few days or I know I'll get in a lot of driving.
It takes away the pressure and anxiety of trying to fill up while making a plane departure.
Plus the gas stations around an airport jack up the prices because they can.

When a car gauge is close to E, there are actually 2 to 4 gallons left.  Unless you bring it back on fumes better to super fill it 25 miles from airport.  The needle wont move

All good points. I haven't rented a car since the pandemic but I used to join the loyalty programs for companies like Hertz. They are free to join and you can avoid waiting on some horrendous lines.

I think mjm is just a bit jealous of Mario Lopez because he dated & married the original Doritos Girl....when mjm thought he had a shot at her.

I'm an equal opportunity hater. I hate Mario Lopez, Justin Beiber, Chrissy Teigen, Anne Hathaway all equally I think they are all phonies. I'd throw Hilaria Baldwin in there too but my friend is best friends with Alec's brother Billy and he says she is really nice privately so I'll give her a pass on my complaints about people
Speaking of "phonies" and "Baldwins", the public is gonna soak up the BS Alec shovels at Stephanapoilas in that exclusive interview. Now he has no idea how the gun fired? I've never know a gun to fire by itself, and he was the one holding it. Of course he's an actor, and a pretty good one at that, so he'll have the viewers taking pity on him by the time that interview is over. "Poor, poor, Alec". Hey SNL has to hold the record for most guest hosts who have killed someone. Off the top of my head;
Robert Blake
OJ
Snoop
Baldwin

Im probably missing a few. That doesn't count the former cast members who were killed by someone else.

Oh, totally agree.....Alec is a massive phony.  And, you're right, he's actually going to convince people of some ridiculous tale.

must see tv on right now - michael buble Christmas in the city

there has been numerous mentioning of buble in this thread already.

hate is a 4 letter word.
