...Can we make the Tournament?

St. John's has an eight-day layoff after Tuesday's game at Villanova. It can add a non-conference game and has had internal discussions about doing so. My take: Schedule a bubble team. Metrics could use the boost. #sjubb

Potential Paths (there are others but these are the potentially rational ones):

1.  Beat DePaul, Providence, and either the Hall or Nova
2.  Beat DePaul and Providence, lose to the Hall and Nova, but win a game in the BET. Might need 2 in the BET here.
3.  Beat DePaul, lose to Providence, beat both the Hall and Nova.
4.  Beat DePaul, lose to Providence, beat either the Hall or Nova, win a game in the BET (again, might need 2).

To be a safe bet in the tournament we gotta sweep depaul and pc, we won at both of their places, lets complete it in our house. Plus split vs nova and shu.

Exactly, one game at a time, take nothing for granted. Was the game at Butler that long ago to realize this?

How about the Bonnies????  They are scheduled as a 12 seed right now and are geographically close to us.

Geographically close ?

St. Bonaventure is in the hell hole of Olean, New York.

Olean is 6 + hours by car/ bus from Jamaica (in good weather).  To fly to/ from Olean you would likely fly into/ out of Buffalo aiirport which is 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

More importantly, I doubt Coach Schmidt wants to risk is chances of a 12 seed by playing St. John's.

You would basically need to find a team who is below us in terms of bubble projections but still somewhat in play. I doubt a team who would be risking be leapfrogged by us would throw a game together. Plus availability is gonna be limited anyway.

ESPN used to have what they called Bracket Buster week around that time of year where games were played between teams on the bubble.

Subject to all other teams' schedules Rutgers or Bonaventure are logical choices.  Or Drake from the MVC?  Or staying in Philly after Nova, Temple?

We're fans and we tend to do that, I'd be much more concerned if the team was looking ahead to Vollanova.
With a loss Saturday, all a w at Villanova does is put us right back to where we're at, at this point.

Gotta take depaul serious and crush them.

i don't get these NET rankings, where Duke, an 8th place team in the ACC, accomplishing no more than St. John's, has a higher NET ranking.  Does this somehow mean Duke has a potentially better chance of getting an at-large bid over us?

And never mind Colgate having ranking hovering around 10!

Duke is Duke, they’re on TV more than Leave it to Beaver reruns.

Because if we don't beat DePaul then the assumption is that we do not deserve to be in the tournament.  The only way that could be overcome would be winning the other 3 games AND probably one game in the BET or by making a run in the BET if you don't win the other 3 games.

It isn't impossible that we beat both Hall and Nova, and frankly it may not even be very unlikely.  But the much easier path is to beat DePaul and Providence and then you only need to win one of those games to feel reasonably comfortable IMO.

And I am far from convinced that we are going to beat Providence again.  This doesn't look like a typical Providence team so maybe I'm fighting ghosts a little bit, but I probably feel a tiny bit better about the Hall game than the Providence game.

Yeah I was texting with Dinkins last night lose DePaul and I'm not even sure 1 win in the BET would do it. Soukdnt shock me if we needed 2. So the much simpler way of figuring it out is best DePaul then sorry about the next game

Very hard to find anyone who fits that profile and has same kind of opening on their calendar. Maryland is open between 2/21 and 2/28 so a game on Thursday 2/25 or Friday 2/26 might be doable.

If we are to add one.... eff it lets Go big or go Home- away game @Gonzaga. Few was quoted earlier this month at trying to fill voids with marquee non-conf matchups.... granted.... SJU is not "marquee," but we are up there with one of the hotter teams in the country right now and could provide them a test they might face vs an 8/9 seed. (https://www.spokesman.com/stor...as-mark-few-on-scheduling-everybody-doing-wh/)

looking at schedules... they got two games in between  the 23rd and 3-mar.... one can dream...

With crowds being allowed at 10k plus arenas now... maybe dangle MSG at Cuse or Rutgers

Yup

The Big East could have 4 teams on the bubble (Seton Hall, UConn, Xavier, St John's). Should any of these teams lose to Depaul/Gtown/Butler/Marq, there's a sizeable chance it's the nail in the coffin for their NCAA hopes.

Why put your bubble teams at risk when you don't have to?

Money is an issue this year. I can't see us adding an away game that involves flying . I think any game would have to be a home game or at least a short not expensive travel
