You are 100% correct. I know now the information I got from a person directly connected with the SHU program was slanted against Richmond and I believed him, which was my bad.
Slanted is as kind a word as I can use, because when I went back after hearing a “slightly” different version I got the Ralph Kramden “Chef Of The Future” treatment. Sometimes friends turn out not to be that so much. Frankly, what I don’t understand to this day is what he was f’ing getting out of BSing me, just tell me you can’t or don’t want to talk about it. But, that was his call and I guess he thought losing a friend was no big deal. I hate bullshit, put it out there honestly and if it turns out you were wrong, own it.
However, FWIW, IMO, the situation WAS not straightforward and I think safe to say, could have been handled much better by ALL parties involved.
Since I don’t know exactly what happened and seeing Richmond handling himself on the court (and I don’t mean how he plays but rather his demeanor) but especially his interviews, my gut is that he as an “instigator” is significantly MUCH less than presented to me originally but that is pure and complete opinion.
I have moved on but am glad I got to see Richmond as a player and person, I don’t know but certainly I now think I was dead wrong in judging him as “THE guilty party”, dead farging wrong.
